Washington Republicans are gutless - Rush Limbaugh Tears Apart GOP, Need To Grow A Spine: No Compromise With Dems, I Want To Defeat Them

Rush Limbaugh Tears Apart GOP, Need To Grow A Spine: No Compromise With Dems, I Want To Defeat Them - YouTube

Published on Jul 31, 2013
July 30, 2013 Interview: Rush Limbaugh spent some time during his Fox News interview Tuesday night slamming the Republican party for not listening to its conservative base enough. He told Greta Van Susteren that the Republican party is a little too complicit in conceding to President Obama on issue after issue, declaring that the party needs to put its foot down, stop the compromise, and understand they should be fighting to "defeat" the Democrats, not work side by side with them in harmony.

Limbaugh said that the Republican party does not like its own conservative base, noting how much heat he gets for what he says. He told Van Susteren, "I get more grief than the Taliban gets. I get more grief than al Qaeda gets. And all conservatives do."

He said the real battle isn't right vs. left but "Washington versus the rest of the country," and while he didn't want to speculate on the future of the Republican party, he found it baffling why Republican leaders, who aren't "stupid," are "agreeing with the Democrats on issue after issue."

Van Susteren asked Limbaugh if he thinks there's any room for compromise with Democrats at all. Limbaugh put his foot down and said no, explaining "I'm about defeating them, Greta, not compromising with them." He charged that whenever the media talks about "compromise" it's all about Republicans needing to compromise with Democrats, not the other way around.

I'm about defeating them, within the political arena of ideas. I'm not talking about anything of a deleterious nature, just defeat them in the arena of ideas... Obama is about eliminating opposition, not working with it. So why should we help him? I think the Democrats are the people who need to be defeated. There's nothing about what they believe that I want to compromise with. I want to defeat it.
He added, "[The U.S. is] hanging by a thread. We're about to lose it. Why compromise with the people responsible for this?"

Because he might seem a bit too gay - Have gay rights groups abandoned Bradley Manning?

American news reports of his trial and conviction generally do not mention a motive for Manning's release of documents to Wikileaks. He was, in the past reported as, huffy about "Don't ask don't tell."
Now it looks like the "gay community" (what ever that is?) has tossed him aside because he may seem to strange and appear as 'too stereotyped gay' to fit the prerequisite new gay public image. m/r

Have gay rights groups abandoned Bradley Manning? | Christopher Carbone | Comment is free | theguardian.com

Gay 25-year-old US army private Bradley Manning stood trial for supposedly aiding the enemy by passing classified information to Wikileaks, including several hundred thousand pages of army reports, diplomatic cables and information that detailed the killing of civilians by American soldiers. His verdict is expected today.
The trial, which ended last week, was marked by government intimidation of the media and comes after Manning spent almost a year in solitary confinement in Quantico, Virginia, prompting international outrage.
One of the interesting factors is that two of the largest and most well funded LGBT rights groups in the US have stayed quiet about Manning, his reprehensible treatment in custody and his trial. Why has Manning, whose revelations about the US Army's actions epitomize social justice in action, gotten the cold shoulder from the Human Rights Campaign and GLAAD (formerly known as the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation)? The silence of these groups has been deafening.
First, Manning is the opposite of everything that these groups seek to portray as the image of "gay Americans". I use those quotes because the majority of LGBT Americans don't conform to these upwardly mobile, white, polished, virile male stereotypes. Manning doesn't look like CNN anchor Anderson Cooper. With his slight frame, lower-class background, questioning of his gender identity, inability to hold down a typical job, general dorkiness and dysfunctional family life, Manning does not fit the poster boy image that GLAAD or the HRC would hold up and promote.

Just to make Sheila Jackson Lee feel at home, Homeland Security loses track of 1 million foreigners

Homeland Security loses track of 1 million foreigners; report could hurt immigration deal - Washington Times

By Stephen Dinan   7-30-13

Clueless
The Homeland Security Department has lost track of more than 1 million people who it knows arrived in the U.S. but who it cannot prove left the country, according to an audit Tuesday that also found the department probably won’t meet its own goals for deploying an entry-exit system.
The findings were revealed as Congress debates an immigration bill, and the Government Accountability Office’s report could throw up another hurdle because lawmakers in the House and Senate have said that any final deal must include a workable system to track entries and exits and cut down on so-called visa overstays.
The government does track arrivals, but is years overdue in setting up a system to track departures — a goal set in a 1996 immigration law and reaffirmed in 2004, but which has eluded Republican and Democratic administrations.

"You will have to pass it to find out what's in it." - Joke May be on Lawmakers and Staffs - Wrinkle in Health Law Vexes Lawmakers’ Aides

Welcome to the real world, the real costs and the real government incompetence that come with Obamacare! m/r

Wrinkle in Health Law Vexes Lawmakers’ Aides - NYTimes.com
By  7-29-13
WASHINGTON — As President Obama barnstorms the country promoting his health care law, one audience very close to home is growing increasingly anxious about the financial implications of the new coverage: members of Congress and their personal staffs.

Under a wrinkle that dates back to enactment of the law, members of Congress and thousands of their aides are required to get their coverage through new state-based markets known as insurance exchanges.
But the law does not provide any obvious way for the federal government to continue paying its share of the premiums for the comprehensive coverage.
If the government cannot do so, it could mean an additional expense of $5,000 a year for individuals and $11,000 for families under some of the most popular plans.
Not surprisingly, that idea is unpopular on Capitol Hill.
“It’s a very serious concern,” said Representative Billy Long, a Missouri Republican who said staff members were “freaked out” at the prospect of paying the full cost of insurance out of their own pockets.
“They’re thinking about leaving government service,” said Mr. Long, noting that some staff members already lived in group houses and cramped apartments to make ends meet on Capitol Hill salaries.

CBC recommends Sheila Jackson Lee for Homeland Security post - Washington Times
By Jessica Chasmar July 28, 2013
-full short post-

Just two weeks after Janet Napolitano announced her resignation as Secretary of Homeland Security, the Congressional Black Caucus has suggested Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston fill her spot.

A letter dated July 25 and signed by Rep. Marcia Fudge, Ohio Democrat and caucus chairwoman, urges President Obama to consider Miss Jackson Lee for the position, calling the Democrat a “voice of reason” that the agency could stand to gain, the Houston Chronicle reported.
Representative Jackson Lee would serve as an effective DHS Secretary because she understands the importance of increasing border security and maintaining homeland security,” the letter reads.
Mrs. Jackson Lee currently serves as a ranking member of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security, a position that the caucus said she “stands as a strong and honest ‘voice of reason.’”

Bitch of Benghazi
Jerry Zeifman — the chief counsel to the House Judiciary Committee at the time of Nixon’s impeachment and a lifelong Democrat — expressed his profound disappointment with her work on the committee. Among her transgressions were lying, removing files from the committee offices without permission, and arguing that Nixon shouldn’t be allowed any legal counsel before the committee. “I terminated her employment on the Nixon impeachment staff,” he told me. “My only regret was I had not reported her unethical practices to the appropriate bar associations. I could not recommend her for any subsequent position of public or private trust.”

He doesn't want to use that often-derided euphemism, either. He says the word itself with a directness that hearkens to his self-professed comedy heroes, Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce.
But it also comes close to sounding like a well-meaning white guy who may not understand how tenuous the ground he's walking on could become. A column on the Trayvon Martin case elicits an egregious attack.

It is rare to read an essay in which almost every statement is wrong, but that is the case with “A Sermon on Race from National Review” by one Kelefa Sanneh, appearing on The New Yorker’s website — little more than McCarthyite character assassination in the form of a reply to my column this week on the president’s and the attorney general’s reactions to the verdict in the Trayvon Martin case.
Here we go:
1) Sanneh writes, “Evidently this [Hanson’s] advice, the wisdom of generations, can be summarized in a single sentence: ‘When you go to San Francisco, be careful if a group of black youths approaches you.’”
...
2) Pace Sanneh, I did not have to mention John Derbyshire’s essay on race, because long ago I had already objected to it.

Sen. Cruz: Defund Obamacare before Americans become 'addicted' to subsidies - Washington Times

 July 27, 2013
DENVER — Sen. Ted Cruz urged conservatives Saturday to join a petition drive to defund Obamacare, calling it their last chance to stop the national health-care plan before its implementation in January.
“On Jan. 1, the exchanges kick in and the subsidies kick in,” said the Texas Republican in a speech Saturday at the Western Conservative Summit. “Once those kick in, it’s going to prove almost impossible to undo Obamacare. The administration’s plan is very simple: Get everyone addicted to the sugar so that Obamacare remains a permanent feature of our society.”
He asked foes of the Affordable Care Act to sign a national petition launched Saturday that calls for Congress to approve the Sept. 30 continuing budget resolution only if it eliminates funding for Obamacare.

It appears that many right-wing Republicans are dead serious this time about defunding Obamacare. Utah Senator Mike Lee is circulating a letter [1]among his colleagues that would threaten a government shut-down unless all funding for Obamacare is removed from the continuing resolution that must be passed by September 30.
If Republicans in both houses simply refuse to vote for any continuing resolution that contains further funding for further enforcement of Obamacare, we can stop it. We can stop the individual mandate from going into effect.
Signers of the letter include the No. 2 and No. 3 Republican senators, John Cornyn of Texas and John Thune of South Dakota, as well as Marco Rubio, who is desperately trying to get back in the good graces of the GOP base after the immigration-reform fiasco.
In the House, it’s North Carolina Representative Mark Meadows who is spearheading the defunding effort [2]:
We have 64 of my colleagues on this letter and we’re asking the leadership not to bring anything to the floor that has funding for ObamaCare in it.
Can it be done? Perhaps a more pertinent question is, should it be done?

College Republicans Denied Admittance to Obama Speech | National Review Online

... Obama was bound to receive a warm response from the audience attending his speech at the University of Central Missouri yesterday — because some students who disagreed with him weren’t allowed into the building.
Christopher White of The College Fix reports that students wearing “Tea Party T-Shirts and others who wore patriotic or Republican-inspired clothing” were turned away at the door under the guise of security concerns, despite the fact that they held tickets to the event.
Why are they smiling? It is not funny to us.
I’d like to offer a helpful tip to all College Republicans who hope to attend an Obama speech in the future: Odds of admission improve if you wear a Che Guevara t-shirt, an “I Heart Kim Jong Un” campaign button, and/or a ballcap displaying the slogan “Obama Girl” prominently above the brim.

White Man Laws do not apply to Holder! Citing 'Intentional Racial Discrimination,' Holder Asks Judge to Re-Impose Preclearance on Texas

Citing 'Intentional Racial Discrimination,' Holder Asks Judge to Re-Impose Preclearance on Texas | National Review Online

In a speech to the National Urban League in Philadelphia today, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that he will ask a federal judge to require the state of Texas to once again seek Justice Department approval before making any changes to its election laws. The announcement portends a new contest over the federal voting-law review process, known as “preclearance,” which was instituted by the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to prevent certain jurisdictions — mostly in the South — from discriminating against racial minorities or other subgroups of voters.
In Shelby County v. Holder last month, the Supreme Court struck down Section 4(b) of the Act, which mapped the jurisdictions that needed federal preclearance. The justices ruled 5–4 that the formula was outdated and therefore unconstitutional; since the map no longer reflected American racial attitudes, the federal government was no longer justified in violating the equal sovereignty of the states:
Nearly 50 years later, things have changed dramatically. Largely because of the Voting Rights Act, “[v]oter turnout and registration rates” in covered jurisdictions “now approach parity. Blatantly discriminatory evasions of federal decrees are rare. And minority candidates hold office at unprecedented levels.” Northwest Austin supra, at 202. The tests and devices that blocked ballot access have been forbidden nationwide for over 40 years. Yet the Act has not eased §5’s restrictions or narrowed the scope of §4’s coverage formula along the way. Instead those extraordinary and unprecedented features have been reauthorized as if nothing has changed, and they have grown even stronger.
With the coverage formula gone, many assumed that the preclearance restrictions in Section 5 were now a dead letter, unless Congress enacted a new formula mapping which jurisdictions ought to receive federal supervision. Holder evidently thinks otherwise —

U.N. to Celebrate ‘World Toilet Day’ | The Weekly Standard
JUL 25, 2013 • BY DANIEL HALPER

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to mark "World Toilet Day." The day will be celebrated November 19.
"The amusement and laughter likely to follow the designation of 19 November as 'World Toilet Day' would all be worthwhile if people’s attention was drawn to the fact that 2.5 billion people lacked proper sanitation and 1.1 billion were forced to defecate in the open, the General Assembly heard today," a U.N. press release reads.
“Ending open defecation will lead to a 35 per cent reduction in diarrhoea, which results in over 750,000 deaths of children under five years of age every year,” Singapore’s representative said as he tabled a draft resolution on Sanitation for All, one of four adopted by consensus today.  Apart from establishing World Toilet Day, the text also urged Member States and the United Nations system to encourage behavioural change, to introduce policies that would increase sanitation among the poor, and to accelerate progress towards attaining Millennium Development Goal 7.
Tajikistan’s representative, speaking also on behalf of Finland, Thailand and Hungary — the Steering Committee of the Group of Friends of Water — underlined the need for accelerated, bolder action on sanitation.  He also called for expansion of the water agenda beyond securing water, hygiene and sanitation for all, to address other matters, like water-resource management, water quality and wastewater.

It must be in Democrat's DNA - Bag ban leads to nationwide increase in shoplifting rates

This is the combination of their "Environ-mental-disorder" and their corrupt attitude that laws are just meant for the masses of little people. m/r

Bag ban leads to nationwide increase in shoplifting rates | The Daily Caller
07/24/2013  by Richard Thompson

Not this Devine Shoplifting, it was the Democrat Devine.

On Friday, New Jersey Democratic operative James Devine was arrested for attempting to snatch $22 worth of merchandise from a local ShopRite pharmacy. Devine tried to smuggle lettuce, shampoo and protein powder out of the store, perhaps trying to hide the fact that he was about to make the world’s most disgusting salad.  To avoid detection, he stashed the goods in a reusable grocery bag.
What seems to be just another edition of Democrats doing dumb deeds actually represents a nationwide problem.  Thanks to laws in several major cities banning the use of plastic carryout bags in retail stores, there has been a spike in shoplifting incidents over the past couple years, a trend that business owners, law enforcement officials and customers have duly noted.
In 2011, Washington D.C. enforced a reusable bag tax and officials became steadily more suspicious of shoppers’ activities.

Made for Sesame Street and NPR - The Writing is on the Wall for Football

Gladwell is a Canadian who is a New Yorker Magazine writer. He has written two short, successful books, "Blink" and "Tipping Point." Both had good research and measured conclusions.
That however was in the pre-Obama days. Since then, he seems have become even more of a lefty, metro-androgynous, weenie crusader. He identifies with Obama and thinks he's the savior of North America for the simpleminded, irrational reason that they are both 'bi-racial.' Gladwell has, ironically, past to his irrational tipping point.

Before the first Beatles record was heard in the United States, they had put in 10,000 hours, and he mentioned a bunch of others.  The reason I mentioned this is that that book has a lot of credibility with people.  He's a British scientist of some kind, but the book has a lot of credibility.  It's a hard-work book. It's a book that features pathways to success.  He's a journalist, and he has now become an outspoken advocate of banning college football on health grounds. Fareed Zakaria on his show Fareed Zakaria GPS on CNN Sunday said to Malcolm Gladwell, "You compare football to dog fighting.  Why?"
