The Mayor Who Slandered the Police | National Review Online

By Heather Mac Donald 1-29-15

New York City mayor Bill de Blasio is “comfortable” with himself. So the city learned during the biggest crisis to hit a New York mayoralty in recent memory. “I’m comfortable with the fact that I’ve always tried to tell the truth and stay true to my values,” de Blasio said in mid January, as police officers across New York City continued a work slowdown that had brought discretionary police activity to a virtual standstill. De Blasio’s breezy self-assurance was revealing but unfortunate, since it was his belief in his own mission as social-justice truth-teller that had pushed the police into revolt in the first place.
William Bratton, New York City police commissioner, has now mobilized the considerable management and disciplinary tools at his disposal to force officers to increase their enforcement activity. But the fault lines that led to the slowdown are still there. Law enforcement in New York may be on the rise for now, but in the long term public safety remains at risk from an activist mayor who sees his base as the anti-police Left.
The New York Police Department slowdown was born of two emotions: fear and anger. And it triggered an outburst of hypocrisy on the part of the political and media elites that was breathtaking to behold.
It began on December 20, 2014, when a thug from Brooklyn assassinated two police officers sitting in their patrol car in a violence-plagued Brooklyn housing project. NYPD cops had been ambushed and assassinated before, but this time felt different, a transit captain observed to me. Those prior assassinations “were carried out by small bands of radicals” who were not operating in a generalized anti-police climate, he said. “Today, the anti-cop atmosphere is at a fever pitch and is fed by elected officials and the media.”

Army Deletes Tweet About ‘Chinks In Armor' After People Cry Racism | National Review Online

By Katherine Timpf  1-30-15

Apparently, being “offended” is a force so powerful that not even the U.S. Army can stand up to it.

U.S. Army has deleted a tweet that used the term “chinks” in armor after people freaked out that the same word can be used in a completely different context as a racial slur against people of Chinese descent.
“Chinks in special ops’ digital and physical armor poses challenges, experts say,” the tweet read, followed by a link to a news release about how terrorists’ using social media has left a hole — dare I say, a chink in  — our country’s defenses.
Originally, the release had a headline similar to the tweet, according to the Washington Post. It has since been changed, however, because apparently calling someone racist is an irrefutable argument even when the accusation is based on not knowing what words mean.

CUNY: Don’t Call Students 'Mr., Mrs. or Ms.' Because That’s Maybe Disrespectful | National Review Online

Don't do anything that someone could find offensive!

The Graduate Center of the City University of New York issued a memo advising staff not to address any students as “Mr., Mrs. or Ms.” beginning this spring because some could find it disrespectful.
The policy is intended to “ensure a respectful, welcoming and gender-inclusive learning environment . . . and to accommodate properly the diverse population of current and prospective students,” according to the memo, signed by interim provost Louise Lennihan.
School spokeswoman (wait – can I call her that?) Tanya Domi said the initiative was also part of the school’s “working within a regulatory framework to comply with Title IX legal principles,” which forbid discrimination based on sex at any institution receiving federal funding.
(Yes, the viewpoint that calling someone “Mr.” could ever be considered a violation of federal policy is terrifying.)
But attorney and Title IX consultant Saundra Schuster insisted to the Wall Street Journal that CUNY’s new policy isn’t necessary for complying with the law. ”They are not mandated to do this,” she said.
That isn’t stopping CUNY from requiring it …

Obama Admin Tells Banks To Shut Up About Its Targeting | The Daily Caller

Patrick Howley 1-29-15

The Obama administration’s Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is threatening banks to be silent about the administration’s new programs supervising and investigating private bank account holders.
A shocking bulletin that CFPB issued to banks, which was obtained by The Daily Caller, was sent around this week in the midst of controversy regarding the administration’s Operation Choke Point program, by which the administration pressures banks to cut off accounts for supposedly suspicious businesses, including gun dealers. Operation Choke Point’s anti-gun mission was recently confirmed in a series of audiotapes published by the US Consumer Coalition, in which a bank teller explained to a gun dealer why his account was being shut down.
“The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau [CFPB] issues this compliance bulletin as a reminder that, with limited exceptions, persons in possession of confidential information, including confidential supervisory information [CSI], may not disclose such information to third parties,” the bulletin states.

Watch Obama Refer to Himself 118 Times in Three Minutes | PJ Tatler

By Paula Bolyard On January 27, 2015

Obama, speaking to an audience of mostly young people celebrating India’s Republic Day in New Delhi on Tuesday, told the crowd, “I realise that the sight of an American president as your chief guest on Republic Day would have once seemed unimaginable.  But my visit reflects the possibilities of a new moment.” He pointed out that he was the first American president to participate in the country’s Republic Day and boasted, “And I’m the first American president to come to your country twice!”
The president went on to refer to himself an astonishing 118 times in the short 33-minute speech, touching on injustices in the United States and in his own personal life.
Obama told the enthusiastic crowd that he and Michelle have been strengthened by their Christian faith. “But there have been times where my faith has been questioned — by people who don’t know me — or they’ve said that I adhere to a different religion, as if that were somehow a bad thing,” Obama said.

Hypocrisy Alert!

Gun Control Group Wants Reporter Fired For Speaking At Rally | The Daily Caller

Chuck Ross 1-28-15

The gun control group the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) wants Fox News affiliate WTTF to fire its investigative reporter, Emily Miller, claiming that she violated journalistic ethics by criticizing Washington D.C.’s strict gun laws at a recent event.
In its attempt to get Miller fired, CSGV pointed to a Jan. 19 speech she gave at an event held by the Virginia Citizens Defense League — which CSGV claims is “a radical pro-gun group that embraces the use of political violence.”
During the rally, Miller said that Washington D.C. “is not part of America, because they don’t recognize the Second Amendment.”
Miller also told the audience that she was “part of this fight that we’re all in.”
Citing the Society of Professional Journalists, CSGV asserts that Miller should be fired from her job on the grounds that journalists should “act independently” by avoiding “conflicts of interest, real or perceived.”

Beijing smog makes city unliveable, says mayor | World news | The Guardian

Beijing’s mayor, Wang Anshun, has called the city “unliveable” because of its noxious smog, according to state media.
“To establish a first-tier, international, liveable and harmonious city, it is very important to establish a system of standards, and Beijing is currently doing this,” he said last Friday, according to the China Youth Daily newspaper.
“At the present time, however, Beijing is not a liveable city.”
Anshun’s speech came days before the market research company Euromonitor International announced, in its findings on the global tourism market in 2013, that tourism to Beijing had declined by 10% from the year before due to pollution and a countrywide economic slowdown.

By ERIC TUCKER 1-28-15

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Drug Enforcement Administration abandoned an internal proposal to use surveillance cameras for photographing vehicle license plates near gun shows in the United States to investigate gun-trafficking, the agency's chief said Wednesday.
DEA Administrator Michelle Leonhart said in a statement that the proposal memorialized in an employee's email was only a suggestion, never authorized by her agency and never put into action. The AP also learned that the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives did not authorize or approve the license plate surveillance plan.

Why is the NY Times So Full Of It?

A Tale of Two Very Different Cities by Heather Mac Donald, City Journal 20 January 2015

The New York Times resurrects a disingenuous comparison between New York and San Diego.

Who knew that the return of William J. Bratton to serve as New York police commissioner, a position he held from 1994 to 1996, would signal a return of some of the hoariest anti-police conceits from that era as well? In a columnblasting Broken Windows policing (which targets public-order offenses like graffiti and turnstile jumping), New York Times reporter Ginia Bellafante dusts off one of theTimes’s favorite questions from the 1990s: “Why doesn’t New York police itself like San Diego does?” San Diego lowered its violent crime rate from 1991 to 1998, and again from 2002 to 2012, by more than New York did, Bellafante says, without allegedly employing what she calls “broken-windows tactics.”
Times reporter Fox Butterfield regularly trotted out the same comparison in the 1990s, and it is even more inapt today than it was then. San Diego and New York’s demographics and crime profiles are worlds apart. San Diego doesn’t have a large entrenched underclass, nor did it ever have a serious violent-crime problem. Its murder rate in 1993, a year before Bratton took over the NYPD, was two-fifths that of New York. New York had 1,946 murders in 1993; San Diego had 133. Gang members did not—and do not—regularly gun each other down in San Diego as they still do in New York’s public housing projects. Yet despite San Diego’s much lower violent crime rate, in 1999, the allegedly pacific San Diego police department fatally shot civilians at 15 times the rate of the NYPD.
What about that gap from 1998 to 2002 in Bellafante’s New York–San Diego comparison? Bellafante, drawing on a report from the John Jay College Center on Race, Crime, and Justice, has chosen her dates carefully. San Diego’s 1990s crime drop came to a screeching halt by the end of the decade, while the New York Police Department continued to bring crime down year after year—the only city in the country to do so. By 2002, when San Diego’s crime rate started dropping again, New York had already saved hundreds more lives.
Bellafante summarizes a recent City Journal article by Bratton and Manhattan Institute fellow George Kelling as “arguing essentially that minorities love ‘broken windows’ [and] that critics who don’t see this ‘have never been to a police/community meeting in a poorer, mostly minority neighborhood.’” …

Fiasco: Bergdahl Should be Shot!

Obama's administration is acting like more traitors covering for a traitor. Six brave soldiers died trying to "rescue" this deserter! m/r

Ralph Peters: Obama Admin "Pressuring The Army To Whitewash" Bergdahl Fiasco | Video | RealClearPolitics

LT. COL. RALPH PETERS: What we have here is very, very clear, it's damnably clear that the White House which doesn't understand why this is a big deal. I mean, he just deserted, right?Wouldn't anybody do that? And they just want to protect the president. And they are pressuring the Army, pressuring the Army to whitewash this. And they don't understand that for the military, those who went before, retirees like me, those on active duty, this is a powerful matter, as you heard from the young soldier, of precedent and principle.

If you let Bergdahl walk -- it's not about this pathetic little creep, Bergdahl, it's about the principle -- if you let him walk with full pay and benefits and a promotion despite overwhelming evidence that he deserted his post in wartime, you make it virtually impossible to prosecute future deserters. Now, in the Army, I'm sure -- the Army's not perfect. You've got some people craven enough and ambitious enough to save to the White House, and I'm sure they are arguing the White House's point, but so far you've got some generals that are showing backbone and saying, no, for the good of the Army, for the good of the military, he has to go through the Article 32 and into court-martial. And the White House is fighting it tooth and nail because they don't give a damn about our military, they just care about this pathetic puss in boots president's reputation.

‘Yo Mama’ Obama Diplomacy

The world is a serious place. He just doesn't get it and never will! m/r

The President’s ‘Yo Mama’ Diplomacy | The American Spectator

By Esther Goldberg  1.28.15

It will be up to Congress to maintain the standards of First World statecraft.

“Yo mama” (from urbandictionary.com):
A term that precedes an inventive insult to the other person’s mother. 1. “Yo mama” so fat, she have to go downstairs sideways. 2. “Yo mama” so fat when she sits on a rainbow skittles fall out.
Back in the days when guys in the ‘hood actually respected their moms, these words were an invitation to fight, notes the Urban Dictionary. Presumably, the Bloods and the Crips (are these guys still around or am I dating myself?) shouted insults at each other until someone started shooting. Remember the World Cup soccer game in the summer of ’06 when Italy’s Materazzi called France’s Zidane something like “son of a terrorist whore” and Zidane’s headbutting response incurred a penalty that caused France to lose the Cup?

Outside of football and the ’hood, however, this sort of ritual baiting doesn’t take place much these days. But for President Obama, it has become an integral part of his foreign policy. And Vladimir Putin is willing to engage with him. Remember the August ’13 news conference where Obama described Putin as having “that kind of slouch, looking like the bored kid in the back of the classroom?” And a Russian politician responded by posting side-by-side photos of Obama holding his poodle and Putin holding his leopard? And then Putin raised Obama one by annexing the Crimea? Wasn’t that fun!

How about when Obama called ISIS “a JV team” back in January ’14, and ISIS decided to conquer territory across a huge swathe of the Middle East—from Aleppo to Baghdad—while Obama did nothing. A disproportionate response, to be sure, but then who’s JV now, Mr. President?

It’s different, of course, when you insult a First World power, which is too bound by the rules of civilized behavior to respond in kind. For example, remember November 2011 when Obama publicly congratulated French President Sarkozy at the G-20 on the birth of his new daughter via the following announcement: “And I informed Nicolas… that I am confident that Giulia inherited her mother’s looks rather than her father’s, which I think is an excellent thing.” That was a 2-in-1 Yo mama, for not only was Obama calling the proud Frenchman ugly but, given the rumors swirling around the matter of Carla’s affair with another man—and consequently of little Giulia’s paternity—the comment captured a smirking suggestion that if little Giulia did look like either her father…

Gowdy Comes Out Swinging | FrontPage Magazine

By Kenneth R. Timmerman On January 28, 2015  In Daily Mailer,FrontPage
Rep. Trey Gowdy came out swinging at Tuesday’s hearing of his Select Committee, laying into Democrats for playing political games and blasting the State Department for refusing to produce documents and for preventing witnesses from testifying before the committee.

As the hearing began, Gowdy had to cut off his microphone to conduct a private conversation with ranking Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, who has been carrying the administration’s water consistently.

While the two men remained personally cordial to each other, the “comity” of earlier hearings was gone.

On Monday, Gowdy released a scathing letter to Cummings that set the table for Tuesday’s hearing.

In it, he blasted Cummings and the Democrats for paying lip service to the need of a bipartisan investigation into the Benghazi terrorist attacks, all the while some Democrats, “some as recently as last week, have stated on many occasions they believe this Committee serves no purpose, as everything relating to Benghazi has already been asked and answered.”

By putting up a website called “Asked and Answered” before the Select Committee had even held its first hearing, the Democrats “instantly prejudged facts that are not yet in evidence,” Gowdy wrote.

The State Department recently turned over 15,000 of new documents in addition to the 25,000 produced in response to multiple document requests from other committees over the past two years. “These documents include significantly more traffic from State Department leadership than in previously provided information to Congress,” Gowdy noted in his opening statement.

Some of this sounds like Obama's Wish List in his State of the Union

"There are fewer than 300 white farmers out of the original total of 4,500, according to the Commercial Farmers Union. The land eviction program that targeted white farmers starting in 2000 was defended by Mugabe as necessary to correct land imbalances dating from the era of white rule, though the upheaval was blamed for mismanagement of Zimbabwe's once rich agricultural economy."

Davos’s Destructive Elites | National Review Online

By Kevin D. Williamson  1-25-15

“None of us is as dumb as all of us.”

Convening to ring the alarm about global warming, our putative betters and would-be rulers gathered in Davos, Switzerland, filling the local general-aviation hangars with some 1,700 private jets. Taking an international commercial flight is one of the most carbon-intensive things the typical person does in his life, but if you’re comparing carbon footprints between your average traveler squeezed into coach on American and Davos Man quaffing Pol Roger in his cashmere-carpeted intercontinental air limousine, you’re talkingSmurfette vs. Sasquatch. The Bombardier’s Global 6000 may be a technical marvel, but it still runs on antique plankton juice. The emissions from heating all those sprawling hotel suites in the Alps in winter surely makes baby polar bears weep bitter and copious baby-polar-bear tears.
The stories add up: Jeff Greene brings multiple nannies on his private jet to Davos, and the rest of the guys gathered to talk past each other about the plight of the working man scarf down couture hot-dogs that cost forty bucks. Bill Clinton makes the case for wealth-redistribution while sporting a $60,000 platinum Rolex.
The hypocrisy of our literally (literally, Mr. Vice President!) high-flying crusaders against fossil fuels — who overlap considerably with our high-living crusaders against economic inequality — is endlessly annoying if frequently entertaining. And there is something unseemly about enduring puritanical little homilies on how we need to learn to live with less from guys wearing shoes that cost more than the typical American family earns in a quarter. When that obnoxious Alec Baldwin character from Glengarry Glen Ross informs that sad-sack real-estate salesman that his watch costs more than that guy’s car, he was trying to provoke him into getting richer, to the tune of a Cadillac Eldorado or, if not that, at least the second-prize set of steak knives. But our modern progressive versions of that guy are even more obnoxious: They demand that we lower our expectations while they live lives of opulence that would have embarrassed the Count of Monte Cristo.
Out-obnoxious-ing a guy with Alec Baldwin’s smirking mug takes a lot of brass.
These ridiculous hypocrites deserve every syllable of abuse that comes their way. …

Tesla and Its Subsidies | National Review Online

By Phil Kerpen 1-26-15

Most of the taxpayers who are subsidizing Tesla cars cannot afford to buy one.

It’s natural to assume the enemy of your enemy is your friend, especially when the enemy in question is big government. So it should come as no surprise that many conservatives have rallied to the side of Elon Musk and his electric-car company, Tesla Motors, in their fights to change state auto-retailing laws so they can sell vehicles directly to consumers, without using franchised auto dealerships.
Bans on direct sales don’t make much sense, and it would be great to have a less regulated automotive market. But it is dangerous to allow Tesla to portray itself as a free-market champion, because the company is actually a prodigious harvester of government favors and handouts.
Tesla’s flagship automobile, the Model S, would not only fail to make money in a free market, it would likely bankrupt any company that tried. As the Los Angeles Times reported, Tesla’s “cars themselves aren’t making the company any money.” A Model S with a typical options package sells for more than $100,000, but that is literally tens of thousands of dollars less than it costs to manufacture and sell.
How, then, does Tesla make its money?
The direct subsidies for purchasers, to encourage them to buy “clean-energy” vehicles, are fairly well-known: a $7,500 federal tax credit and a wide variety of state-level incentive programs. (Tesla has them all listed conveniently here.)

Power breakdown plunges Pakistan into darkness - Yahoo News

1-24-15 AP

Pakistan was plunged into darkness after a key power transmission line broke down early on Sunday in an incident blamed on a rebel attack, the latest reminder of the country's crippling energy crisis.
The power failure, one of the worst Pakistan has experienced, caused electricity to be cut in major cities throughout the country, including the capital Islamabad.
It was later restored in much of the country, with the national power company saying normal distribution would resume within hours.
Officials said the blackout began after midnight when a transmission line connecting a privately-run power plant to the national grid was damaged.
A senior official at the National Grid station in Islamabad said around 80 percent of the country was hit by power breakdown.

But President-in-Waiting Hillary Rodham Clinton is already giving out signals that a mere 40-car motorcade may no longer be enough. This week she gave a speech in Saskatoon, which is a town in Saskatchewan, which is a province of Canada. The speech was for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, which is "under investigation from the United States for helping wealthy Americans offshore money in the bank's Caribbean accounts to avoid paying federal taxes". I'm on CIBC's side on that one: By comparison with other western nations, Americans labor under a regime of ever tighter banking constraints that are a disgrace to a supposedly free people.
So if she wants to cozy up to foreign banksters (as they say in Britain), you go, girl! Nevertheless:
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave a couple paid speeches in Canada yesterday. She was reportedly accompanied by 65 agents of the United States Secret Service to at least one of the events.

The agents were presumably on hand to help keep the former first lady safe...

It's unclear what part, if any, of the security tab was picked up by Clinton -- and what part was paid for by U.S. taxpayers.
Yeah, right. Even by the standards of the US political class, Bill and Hillary are in the fortunate position of rarely, if ever, having to write a personal check.

“America’s lifestyle expectations are far too high and need to be adjusted so we have less things and a smaller, better existence,” Greene said in an interview today at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “We need to reinvent our whole system of life.”

Fascism Scam at Work - the 1% Want all the Regulation Control and Corp. Welfare They Can Get Davos - Climate Conference's Massive Carbon Footprint

They can sell phony carbon credits based on their own pricing formulas, get special tax breaks and exclude small business innovation. The scam is a pure fascist big money and big government partnership. The uniformed police come from the EPA and the UN as enforcers.

It's nice to have government-corporate welfare pay for the lavish conference, accommodations and private jet transportation, isn't it. m/r

Davos Climate Conference's Massive Carbon Footprint | National Review Online

JANUARY 21, 2015  By Brendan Bordelon

As the World Economic Forum gets underway in Davos, Switzerland, this Thursday, the global elite is strategizing on how to best combat global warming and limit carbon emissions worldwide.
But with thousands of private jets ferrying the global glitterati to their alpine retreat this week, perhaps they should start by looking in the mirror.
An estimated 1,700 private aircraft are descending on the Swiss Alps — a record number that drove the Swiss Armed Forces to open up its Dübendorf military airbase to civilian traffic earlier this week.
Private jet operators across Europe are seeing a business boom, with flights on some carriers running from $10,000 to $15,000 an hour. Some companies are even throwing in free helicopter rides — another high-emission aircraft in high demand at Davos.
Climate scientists view air travel as the most costly per-person contributor to carbon emissions, with some estimates saying it accounts for 5 percent of “warming.” A round-trip flight from New York to Europe can emit 2 to 3 tons of carbon dioxide per person — and that’s a commercial flight, where the cost is shared with hundreds of other passengers.
Around 1,500 business executives and 40 heads of state are expected to attend the Forum, where tickets go for about $40,000. Among them are Oxfam director Winnie Byanyima, a World Economic Forum co-chair who is planning a series of Davos events highlighting the gap between the global elite and everybody else. …

Obama's Hot Air and Gas are his Global Warming Claims: 'The President Just Made that Up'

Sen. Inhofe on Obama's Global Warming Claims: 'The President Just Made that Up' | CNS News

by Craig Bannister  January 16, 2014

Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) told a Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) committee hearing today that the president must have fabricated two oft-repeated climate claims.

"Both statements are false," Sen. Inhofe said of Obama's global warming claims, since neither the EPA nor the U.N. IPCC climate group can provide any supporting statistics: [video:1]

"On multiple occasions, and most recently on May 30th of last year, President Obama has said, and this is a quote he has used several times, he said that 'the temperature around the globe is increasing faster than was predicted even ten years ago' and that 'the climate is warming faster than anybody anticipated five or ten years ago.'

"Both statements are false, and through letters to you, Ms. McCarthy, and on the record in this Committee, we've asked the EPA to provide us with the data backing up these two statements, the two statements made by the president, but they don't have any data and referred us to the UN IPCC. And, their scientists, apparently, the EPA thought they were the source of this.

"Well, we went there and they had nothing to back it up, so apparently the president just made that up.

The Fix is Actually Simple: "Repeal No Child Left Behind" and Eliminated the Dept. of Education!

This Short Speech from Lamar Alexander Will Show You How Broken Washington Really Is | PJ Tatler

By Paula Bolyard On January 21, 2015 @ 2:32 pm In Education,Politics

Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) gave the opening remarks during today’s Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee meeting, calling for bipartisan reform of No Child Left Behind (NCLB).
Alexander said that reform of NCLB, which was signed into law by President Bush in 2002, “is more than seven years overdue.”
“We’ve been working on it for more than 6 years,” Alexander said. “When we started, former Rep. George Miller [an original sponsor of NCLB] said, ‘Pass a lean bill to fix No Child Left Behind,’ and we identified a small number of problems.” Since then, Alexander said, “We’ve had 24 hearings, and in each of the last two Congresses we’ve reported bills out of committee.”
Six years! Congress has been unable — in six years — to reform a bad law that took a mere 350 days (or if you prefer, 8400 hours) to pass. No Child Left Behind was initially proposed by President George W. Bush on January 23, 2001, and coauthored by Representatives John Boehner (R-OH), George Miller (D-CA), and Senators Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and Judd Gregg (R-NH). The House passed the bill on May 23, 2001, and by June 14, 2001, it had won Senate approval. President Bush signed it into law on January 8, 2002.
Thirteen years later, Congress is still trying to repair the damage from the law that amounted to the largest federal intrusion into state education decisions in U.S. history. The problem is that lawmakers are trying to “fix” something that shouldn’t exist in the first place. …

The President’s Address of Lies, Nonsense and Delusion!

Fortunately, the were other shows on, so during the incontinence commercials, I flipped to the State of the Union. All systems were excretory.

During one of the flips, Obama mentioned his grand father enlisted (or was drafted) during WWII.

The first thing that came to mind was: Which Grandfather?

The second thing that came to mind: For Which Side?

The President’s Address of Lies | FrontPage Magazine

By Daniel Greenfield On January 21, 2015  In Daily Mailer,FrontPage
Obama’s previous State of the Union address claimed last year would be a “breakthrough year.” In this year’s State of the Union address he announced that he would turn the page.

Turning the page on last year’s grandiose and dishonest claims is what Obama does with each new address. Each year terrorism has been permanently defeated and the economy has recovered; Al Qaeda is on the run, unemployed dentists from Poughkeepsie are learning to install solar panels and illegal aliens from Los Angeles are teaching sex ed to kindergarteners.

And then next year he comes out to announce once again that the country has recovered from the crisis that he had already announced that it had recovered from last year.

And everyone applauds.

What exactly is Obama turning the page on? Two lost wars and the lowest employed population since 1977… under his predecessor Jimmy Carter? ...

"I trust a Las Vegas casino with my money more than I trust the government with it"

By  on 1.21.15

To be honest, I was approximately as jazzed to spend an hour listening to the President yammer on about his policy agenda as Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and given her noted history of pre-gaming the event, probably just as drunk. But regardless, in selfless stewardship to the public interest, I watched the whole thing, paid attention through most of it, and only flipped the channel once to check out whether the Travel Channel had a show on that would send my OCD into overdrive. I flipped back because it was something about RVs and camping isn't exactly my forte. Even in an RV.
Anyway, in case you missed it, or blacked out early because you actually followed the rules of a State of the Union drinking game, here are ten things you need to know about last night's rousing example of what happens when a President knows that his policy agenda should have been enacted six years ago when he had a functional Congress controlled by his own party, but plows delusionally ahead anyway.
