Big Brother is watching you: Every car in Royston is tracked by police | Mail Online
30th July 2011 By ANNA EDWARDS

A sleepy Home Counties market town has become the first in Britain to have every car passing through it tracked by police cameras.

Royston, in Hertfordshire, has had a set of police cameras installed on every road leading in and out of it, recording the numberplate of every vehicle that passes them.

The automatic number-plate recognition system will check the plates against a variety of databases, studying them for links to crimes, and insurance and tax records, and alerting police accordingly.

There were just seven incidents of vehicle crime in the town last month, and residents believe the unmarked cameras are an invasion of their privacy.

Lowest Amongst the Bottom Feeders: Biden charging Secret Service for cottage rental

Ask Walter, Biden gives his hemorrhoid splinters.

Biden charging Secret Service for cottage rental - Washington Times
By Jim McElhatton 7-31-11

he U.S. Secret Service does more than protect Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. — the agency also pays him rent.

Since April, Mr. Biden has collected more than $13,000 from the agency charged with protecting him and his family for use of a rental cottage adjacent to the waterfront home he owns in a Wilmington, Del., suburb.

Mr. Biden, listed not as vice president in federal purchasing documents but as a “vendor,” is eligible for up to $66,000 by the time the government contract expires in the fall of 2013, the records show.

Officials say the arrangement came about when a previous tenant moved out of the cottage and the Secret Service moved in.

Bottom Feeders Never Stop! Always alert for every bone and morsel to pick clean. Durbin proposes Internet sales tax

Durbin proposes Internet sales tax | Government | Crain's Chicago Business
By: Paul Merrion July 29, 2011

(Crain's) — Sen. Dick Durbin introduced legislation today that would require all but the smallest Internet retailers to collect what he called “billions in taxes that are already owed.”

The Illinois Democrat's “Main Street Fairness Act” would overturn Supreme Court decisions that held the state and local sales tax system is so complex that requiring Internet retailers to collect sales taxes would be a burden on interstate commerce. The bill would require states to use a simplified and harmonized sales tax system, already adopted by 24 states.

No Muslim Terrorist here. Just a Muslim Conscientious Objector! AWOL Soldier Arrested in What Police Say Was New Fort Hood Terror Plot

Abdo was attempting to make a purchase at Guns Galore in Killeen, the same ammunition store where Maj. Nidal Hasan purchased weapons that were allegedly used to gun down 13 people and wound 30 others at the base on Nov. 5, 2009.

AWOL Soldier Arrested in What Police Say Was New Fort Hood Terror Plot - FoxNews.com

Abdo went AWOL on July 4. On the eve of his first deployment to Afghanistan -- after only one year in the Army -- Abdo applied for conscientious objector status as a Muslim. It was denied by his superiors at Fort Campbell but later overturned by the Assistant Deputy Secretary of the Army review board.

Another source told Fox News that two other U.S. soldiers have been questioned as part of the investigation.

Abdo's Facebook page, which has since been taken down, showed that he traveled to New York City in September to attend an antiwar vigil and show support for Pfc. Bradley Manning, the alleged source for the classified war documents released by controversial group WikiLeaks.

Vasys said Abdo likely will be charged with being in possession of bomb-making materials. Killeen Chief Baldwin said the case would be referred for federal charges, though a Justice Department official would not confirm that.

In the 2009 shooting case, Maj. Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, was arraigned on July 20 and is currently standing trial. His civilian lawyer withdrew from the case as it began.

Norway Killer, Anders Behring Breivik, not Christian, not right-wing - Appears to be another unabomber in the "Ted" Kaczynski model

He's a mass murderer! He's a lone psycho killer, not a right-wing 'hate group,' as most of the media would like.

John Lott's Website: Norway killer, Anders Behring Breivik, not Christian, not right-wing
Ann Coulter has some very useful information available here.

In fact, however, Americans who jumped to conclusions about Hasan were right and New York Times reporters who jumped to conclusions about Breivik were wrong.

True, in one lone entry on Breivik's gaseous 1,500-page manifesto, "2083: A European Declaration of Independence," he calls himself "Christian." But unfortunately he also uses a great number of other words to describe himself, and these other words make clear that he does not mean "Christian" as most Americans understand the term. (Incidentally, he also cites The New York Times more than a half-dozen times.)

Had anyone at the Times actually read Breivik's manifesto, they would have seen that he uses the word "Christian" as a handy moniker to mean "European, non-Islamic" -- not a religious Christian or even a vague monotheist. In fact, at several points in his manifesto, Breivik stresses that he has a beef with Christians for their soft-heartedness. (I suppose that's why the Times is never worried about a "Christian backlash.")

A casual perusal of Breivik's manifesto clearly shows that he uses the word "Christian" similarly to the way some Jewish New Yorkers use it to mean "non-Jewish." In this usage, Christopher Hitchens and Madalyn Murray O'Hair are "Christians."

Improving Mexican economy draws undocumented immigrants home from California - Sacramento City News - sacbee.com

There are fewer undocumented immigrants in California – and the Sacramento region – because many are now finding the American dream south of the border.

"It's now easier to buy homes on credit, find a job and access higher education in Mexico," Sacramento's Mexican consul general, Carlos González Gutiérrez, said Wednesday. "We have become a middle-class country."

Watch for an Obamacare Move Aug. 2nd! Obama faces legal bind if time runs out

Obama faces legal bind if time runs out - FT.com

If there is no increase in the debt ceiling by August 2, then the Treasury will not have enough money to meet all its commitments without borrowing more money, which it will not be able to do without breaking a wartime law from 1917 that created the debt ceiling.

But it is also bound by laws that tell it to make various payments, including the latest appropriations act passed by Congress in the spring, as well as an apparent instruction in the constitution to keep paying US debts.

The 14th amendment, adopted in 1868, says that “the validity of the public debt of the United States ... shall not be questioned”.

The purpose of the clause – originally formed to settle any doubt that the US would pay debts it incurred during the civil war – was tested in a Supreme Court case after the US left the gold standard to fight the Great Depression in 1933.

The court said that Congress could not tear up its promise to bondholders to pay them in gold and interpreted the 14th amendment as applying to “whatever concerns the integrity of the public obligations”.

“The Supreme Court, citing the 14th amendment among other law, has made it clear that Congress does not have the power to alter its own contracts,” said Michael Bradfield, former general counsel of the Federal Reserve Board and author of a memorandum being circulated among Capitol Hill staffers looking to bypass a congressional vote on the debt ceiling.

By that logic, Mr Bradfield said, “if an impasse were to occur, the legal case for invoking the 14th Amendment would be very strong”.

How about a Government for the rest of us? Apple Now Has More Cash Than The U.S. Government

Apple Now Has More Cash Than The U.S. Government
Matt Rosoff | Jul. 28, 2011
Here's something to keep in mind as you follow this evening's congressional debate over the debt ceiling.

According to the latest daily statement from the U.S. Treasury, the government had an operating cash balance of $73.8 billion at the end of the day yesterday.

Apple's last earnings report (PDF here) showed that the company had $76.2 billion in cash and marketable securities at the end of June.

In other words, the world's largest tech company has more cash than the world's largest sovereign government.

House panel approves broadened ISP snooping bill

Who are they trying to protect? Just like gun control, the only people who get investigated and have a "dossier" are the law abiding or unaware innocents. Like sharks that never sleep, they just want to take a bite because they can. The administration has been pushing this and the old line Republicans are dupes.

House panel approves broadened ISP snooping bill | Privacy Inc. - CNET News
by JULY 28, 2011

A last-minute rewrite of the bill expands the information that commercial Internet providers are required to store to include customers' names, addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and temporarily-assigned IP addresses, some committee members suggested. By a 7-16 vote, the panel rejected an amendment that would have clarified that only IP addresses must be stored.

It represents "a data bank of every digital act by every American" that would "let us find out where every single American visited Web sites," said Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California, who led Democratic opposition to the bill.

Lofgren said the data retention requirements are easily avoided because they only apply to "commercial" providers. Criminals would simply go to libraries or Starbucks coffeehouses and use the Web anonymously, she said, while law-abiding Americans would have their activities recorded.

Tea Partiers are the adults in debt ceiling debate

"The real refusal to compromise is coming from Democrats, who insist on a debt ceiling increase that will last through the 2012 election, in the hopes that voters will forget about their spending binge until after they’re re-elected."

Matt Kibbe | Tea Partiers are the adults in debt ceiling debate | The Daily Caller

Despite being branded by the media as selfish, demanding or childish, the Tea Party has positioned itself as the responsible adult in the room. Cut, Cap and Balance solves the immediate debt ceiling problem and gets the budget under control in the short and long term. It’s not only a reasonable compromise; it’s a smart solution. Raising the debt ceiling is a temporary fix, whether it’s raised through the end of the year, through the 2012 election or further, because it only treats a symptom of the real problem: the debt itself. Without a serious, comprehensive approach to budget reform, we face a long-term sovereign debt crisis similar to the one Greece is experiencing.

We’ve simply run out of money, and it’s now time to make hard choices and set priorities. The United States spends roughly $300 billion a month, 43 percent of which is borrowed. That’s not a sustainable spending pattern and isn’t a practice we should endorse by raising the debt ceiling without cutting spending. We need to cut spending and grow the economy.

That’s why tax increases are and should be off the table. As long as there are programs like AmeriCorps and subsidies such as those that prop up ethanol, we can afford cuts without raising taxes. Addressing the debt without raising taxes sends an important message to American businesses, which are hording cash but not hiring in large part because of uncertainty over the future of taxes and regulations, according to a recent report in The Washington Post.

The unmanned solar-powered airship was only in the air for less than three hours after it launched in Akron, Ohio, on Wednesday morning.

It ascended as planned up to 32,000ft but the Lockheed Martin airship then encountered problems and was not able to get up to 60,000ft.

Crash of USS Akron "Blimp," actually a rigid airship - Sounds familiar:
THE NEW YORK TIMES, New York, April 5, 1933
"73 LOST IN AKRON CRASH, 3 SURVIVORS HERE; SHIP DRIVEN DOWN IN STORM, CAUSE IS UNKNOWN,; RESCUE BLIMP FALLS, 2 DROWN, 5 ARE SAVE" with many subheads that include: "Wind Wrecks The J-3" "Hunt For Survivors Vain" "Craft Plunged Into Sea"
In April of 1933, Akron cast off from her moorings to operate along the coast of New England, assisting in the calibration of radio direction finder stations, with Rear Admiral Moffett embarked. Also on board were: Commander Harry B. Cecil, the admiral's aide; Commander Fred T. Berry, the commanding officer of Lakehurst's Naval Air Station; and Lieutenant Colonel Alfred F. Masury, USAR, a guest of the admiral, a vice-president of the Mack Truck Co., and a strong proponent of the potential civilian uses of rigid airships.
As she proceeded on her way, Akron encountered severe weather which did not improve as she passed over Barnegat Light, New Jersey at 2200 (10:00 PM) on 3 April. Wind gusts of terrific force struck the airship unmercifully around 0030 (12:30 AM) on 4 April, and pushed her down toward the sea. She crashed tail first and then sank in the stormy Atlantic. The German motorship Phoebus in the vicinity saw lights descending toward the ocean at about 0023 (12:23 AM) and altered course to starboard to investigate, thinking she was witnessing a plane crash. At 0055 (12:55 AM) on 4 April, Phoebus picked up Lieutenant Commander Herbert V. Wiley, Akron's executive officer, unconscious, while a ship's boat picked up three more men: Chief Radioman Robert W. Copeland, Boatswain's Mate Second Class Richard E. Deal, and Aviation Metalsmith Second Class Moody E. Ervin. Despite desperate artificial respiration, Copeland never regained consciousness and died on board Phoebus.

ATF Manager says he shared Fast and Furious Info with White House - CBS News Investigates - CBS News
Sharyl Attkisson

It's the first time anyone has publicly stated that a White House official had any familiarity with ATF's operation Fast and Furious, which allowed thousands of weapons to fall into the hands of suspected traffickers for Mexican drug cartels in an attempt to gain intelligence. It's unknown as to whether O'Reilly shared information with anybody else at the White House.

Congressional investigators obtained an email from Newell to O'Reilly in September of last year in which Newell began with the words: "you didn't get this from me."

"What does that mean," one member of Congress asked Newell, " 'you didn't get this from me?' "

"Obviously he was a friend of mine," Newell replied, "and I shouldn't have been sending that to him."

Newell told Congress that O'Reilly had asked him for information.

"Why do you think he asked for that information," Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) asked Newell.

"He was asking about the impact of Project Gunrunner to brief people in preparation for a trip to Mexico... what we were doing to combat firearms trafficking and other issues."

Sheila Jackson Lee: Racist and Moron

It is good to see that there is a consensus.

Sheila Jackson Lee: Racist and Moron | FrontPage Magazine
By Daniel Greenfield On July 27, 2011

Sheila Jackson-Lee might be the dumbest person in congress. She might even be the dumbest person outside congress. If there were ever a global championship for idiots, the country could send her there. And leave her there; because unlike Lassie, she wouldn’t be able find her way back on her own.

When Enron wanted someone to use as a puppet, they picked Sheila Jackson-Lee. They wanted a woman who didn’t have a mind of her own. Enron executives described her as “agreeable”, which was a polite way of saying, “dumber than a bunch of rocks caught in the hubcaps of a slow bus going the wrong way on a one way street in the middle of a flood.”

Jackson-Lee’s only qualification for sitting on the Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics was the space between her ears. She visited JPL and asked if the Mars Rover would be able to show “the flag the astronauts planted there before”. Staffers were reportedly surprised that she didn’t complain about cost overruns on the Death Star.

In February, Congress was debating federal spending. And Sheila Jackson-Lee got up to make her contribution denouncing a Pepsi commercial as racist. Other things that Jackson-Lee has denounced as racist include hurricanes, a balanced budget and secret service agents. Crying “Racism” is actually her only life skill.

In 2003, Sheila Jackson-Lee complained that hurricane names were too “lilly white” and said that “All racial groups should be represented.” She suggestedHurricanes “Keisha, Jamal and Deshawn”.

Democrats Oppose Obama-U.N. Gun Control Treaty - Washington Whispers (usnews.com)
By PAUL BEDARD 7/26/2011

Twelve Democratic senators have joined 45 Republicans in a fast growing movement to halt progress on an Obama-backed United Nations effort that could bring international gun control into the United States and slap America's gun owners with severe restrictions.

[Read more about gun rights and gun control.]

Montana Democratic Sen. Jon Tester's office today provided Whispers with their letter, signed by 11 other Democrats, urging the president to press for significant changes in the treaty. Their major concern: that domestic manufacture, possession, and sales of firearms and ammo will be included, thereby giving an international authority the right to regulate arms sales already protected by the Second Amendment. They also said any move for an international gun registry would be a non-starter. [See editorial cartoons about the Democrats.]

A Republican letter circulated by Kansas Republican Sen. Jerry Moran has 45 signatures.

Ratification requires two-thirds of the Senate. So far 57 senators have said they would vote against the treaty, expected to be wrapped up next year.

Corporatism Kills | FrontPage Magazine
Corporatism Kills
By Ben Shapiro On July 26, 2011

The right consistently defends corporations because corporations provide jobs, boost the economy, and produce products we like at prices we will pay; the left consistently attacks corporations because they don’t “pay their fair share,” they kill small businesses, and they spend too much money on their executives and plush jets.

Both sides are right, and wrong. The right is correct in that corporations create tremendous numbers of jobs, and they produce products we like. But they’re wrong in that corporations don’t provide enough jobs, and they don’t engage in honest competition, which means their prices aren’t the ones we should be paying. The left is also correct: corporations do get special treatment and the playing field isn’t level. But they’re also wrong when they attack corporations as right wing stooges who are abusing the power of the free market.

The truth is that corporations aren’t capitalist actors. They are profit-driven actors. Chiefly, this means that if they can cut great deals with the government in order to lock out their business competitors or direct taxpayer cash into their own pockets, they’ll do it with alacrity.

His Imperial Weenie Majesty - Wants Tax and Spending Hikes Passed for Beyond Election

More Socialist Class War from the incompetent community organizer and thief.

News from The Associated Press July 25,2011
Obama: Default would be reckless, irresponsible (and all your fault!)

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama says the only ones standing in the way of a balanced compromise to the nation's debt crisis are those Republicans in Congress who are insisting only on spending cuts.

Appealing to the nation in a televised address Monday night, Obama said the nation is growing dangerously close to default. He warned that would be what he called a "reckless and irresponsible" outcome to the debate.

The nation will run out of ability to borrow money and pay its existing bills after Aug. 2 if a deal is not reached by then to extend the nation's debt limit.

Republicans and Democrats have put forth competing last-minute deals. It is unclear how or whether a compromise will happen.

Obama’s [Condescending] Speech

Posted on July 25, 2011 10:25 PM

President Obama opened his prime-time speech Monday evening by reminding the American people that George W. Bush’s irresponsible deficits are crippling the nation’s economy. Sure, he racked up a “little credit card debt” saving the economy, but not to worry, he assured us, it’s a problem that can easily be solved. “Rich” “corporations” make too much money. Unfortunately, a radical cadre of House Republicans is standing in the way of a “grand bargain” to reduce Bush’s deficit by not “seeing eye-to-eye” with the president on the need to raise taxes. Call your elected representatives, Obama implored. Tell them to agree with me.

Raising the debt ceiling is just not that big of deal, he explained. Every president has done it (though he voted against it as a Senator). He just needs an extra $2.5 trillion in debt to pay the bills that have already been “racked up by Congress.”

But we also need to reduce Bush’s deficit. Unfortunately, the “cuts-only” approach being championed by House Republicans “doesn’t solve the problem,” and is simply unacceptable. The cuts-only proposal put forward by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) on the other hand, is “a much better approach” because it absolves lawmakers from having to relitigate the issue at a later date (when there are important reelection campaigns to consider).

“We all agree,” he said, even House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) and plenty of Senate Republicans, on the need to reduce the deficit by $4 trillion, and the need to raise taxes by $1 trillion on “patriotic Americans” who are “willing to pitch in.”

“They’ve done it before,” he said. Indeed, argued the president, when congress has raised taxes in the past, the American people have tended to pay them. Did you know that Reagan raised taxes? I’m just like Reagan, he assured us. He’s perfectly willing to make “tough decisions” on entitlement reform, but only if “the burden is fairly shared.”

“We’re left at a stalemate,” Obama concluded. Therefore, he has decided to take the lead, by demanding that congressional leaders come up with a “fair compromise” that can pass both houses, so he can sign it (and take credit for it). The American people, he said, are “offended” by “a town where compromise has become a dirty word.” What is this great country of ours, if not a “grand experiment in compromise?”

In terms of blatant, cynical, political demagoguery, the speech was par for the course. Substantively, Obama threw his support behind Harry Reid’s proposal in the Senate, but did not explicitly threaten to veto a short-term debt increase (as outlined in Boehner’s plan). Either way, it’s a little late in the game at this point to try to reframe the debt debate, especially with the looming apocalypse the White House insists will ensue if nothing is done by August 2. Should be an interesting week.

Obama: 'I need a dance partner' on immigration reform - CNN.com
America's immigration system is broken, but only a bipartisan political movement can fix it, President Barack Obama said Monday.
"The idea of doing things on my own is very tempting, I promise you, not just on immigration reform. But that's not how our system works. That's not how our democracy functions," Obama told the National Council of La Raza.
Speaking at the organization's annual conference in Washington, Obama said passing immigration reform measures will require support from both sides of the aisle in Congress.
"Let's be honest, I need a dance partner here, and the floor is empty," he said.
Audience members greeted Obama with a standing ovation, and responded to his discussion of immigration reform by chanting, "Yes you can, yes you can.""I need you to keep building a movement for change outside of Washington, one they can't stop, one that's greater than this community," Obama told them. The speech comes at a critical time for Obama, who is trying to drum up support among Latino voters in the run-up to the 2012 election.

Is Obama a pathological liar? - Old Joke: "How can you tell if he's lying?"

Obama's reading his Teleprompter and his lips are moving-

ANALYSIS/OPINION: “Mendacity is a system that we live in.”- Brick, “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”

In the weird world that is Washington, men and women say things daily, hourly, even minutely, that they know deep down are simply not true. Inside the Beltway, we all call those utterances “rhetoric.”

But across the rest of the country, plain ol’ folk call ‘em lies. Bald-faced (even bold-faced) lies. Those folks have a tried-and-true way of determining a lie: If you know what you’re saying is patently false, then it’s a lie. Simple.

And lately, the president has been lying so much that his pants could burst into flames at any moment.

His late-evening news conference Friday was a tour de force of flat-out, unadulterated mendacity — and we’ve gotten a first-hand insider’s view of the president’s long list of lies.

“I wanted to give you an update on the current situation around the debt ceiling,” Mr. Obama said at 6:06 p.m. OK, that wasn’t a lie — but just about everything he said after it was, and he knows it.

“I just got a call about a half-hour ago from Speaker [John A.] Boehner, who indicated that he was going to be walking away from the negotiations,” he said.

Not so: “The White House made offers during the negotiations,” said our insider, a person intimately involved in the negotiations, “and then backtracked on those offers after they got heat from Democrats on Capitol Hill. The White House, and its steadfast refusal to follow through on its rhetoric in terms of cutting spending and addressing entitlements, is the real reason that debt talks broke down.”

Mr. Boehner was more blunt in his own news conference: “The discussions we’ve had with the White House have broken down for two reasons. First, they insisted on raising taxes. … Secondly, they refused to get serious about cutting spending and making the tough choices that are facing our country on entitlement reform.”

But back to the lying liar and the lies he told Friday. ...
