It was worse than a long bad joke! Annus Horribilis Comicus

The Obama re-election topped off the pathos to this horrible year.
2013 portends to suck too! m/r

The American Spectator : Annus Horribilis Comicus

By Jed Babbin on 12.31.12

If you think 2013 will be any better, John Boehner has a Plan C to sell you.

2011 delivered so much political chicanery and congressional knavery some thought that 2012 couldn’t possibly outdo it.

The more cynical among us, including your humble correspondent, knew better. A presidential election year would be enough to guarantee a new low, and we knew Obamacare would come before the Supreme Court, NBC would be in charge of the Olympics, the EU would continue its monetary meltdown while France — our favorite comic opera country — would be holding its own presidential election. Inevitably, we concluded, 2012 would leap every hurdle to make 2011’s nitwittery seem mild in comparison. And, of course, it did.

The monthly accounting of 2012 is ready, and it reads like a movie script Mel Brooks would have rejected.

JANUARY was a tough month.

‘They need all the help they can get, and the red tape doesn’t help anyone. It only hurts and hinders and grows the problem,” another said.
Victims are shuffled from one desk to another for registration, an identification check, and one-on-one interviews – then referred to something called a “Mitigation Desk,” a FEMA official at a local Disaster Recovery Center explained to MRCTV.
“They have to go through SBA and see if they’re eligible or not. And, then, they come back to the grant program if they’re not eligible. So, one way or another, they’re going to be given the help for repair, replacement,” the FEMA official assured MRCTV.
The Disaster Recovery Center has since been relocated “before the bad weather hits.”

‘Childish Fantasy’: Gun Control and the Victim

related: Celebrities Launch Dumb Gun Control Campaign

PJ Media » ‘Childish Fantasy’: Gun Control and the Victim
By Jack Dunphy On December 26, 2012

On the evening of December 14, when the horror of Sandy Hook Elementary School was quite rightly the only subject on everyone’s minds and lips, I was in my car listening to talk radio. I tuned to one station and then another before choosing Dennis Miller’s program. I was eager to hear Mr. Miller’s take on the day’s sorrows, but I was astonished to hear him and his guest (I’ve forgotten who) discussing … the fiscal cliff. How could this be? It was as if the massacre hadn’t happened.
It took me a few seconds, but then I remembered that Mr. Miller broadcasts live from Santa Barbara, CA, in the morning, but here in Los Angeles his show airs on tape delay in the evening. And so for those fleeting moments I was taken back, in a way, to the time before I or Dennis Miller or his guest or anyone else outside of Newtown, CT, had heard of Sandy Hook Elementary School. How pleasant it all seemed that morning, how trivial were my own worries, and how horribly, horribly different the day would turn out to be.
That fiscal cliff seems not to be such a big deal after all, does it? And now we have all but abandoned talk of fiscal cliffs and begun our “conversation on guns.” Or have we?
Based on what we’ve heard so far, this “conversation” amounts to little more than an attempt by one side to shame the other into silence and acquiescence. If you refuse to admit that you, the gun owner, are part of the problem; if you dare to suggest that the public at large would not be less safe but safer if more law-abiding citizens were allowed to carry concealed handguns; if you refuse to acknowledge what is so patently obvious to your enlightened betters living in colonies along both coasts — which is that firearms are inherently evil and have no place in a civilized society — then you are an abettor in the slaughter of children and deserving of public scorn if not imprisonment and even death [1].
Indeed, this “conversation” has been marked by ignorance and emotionalism on the part of those who would see Americans surrender their guns in advancement of the utopia envisioned in such places as the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Fashion as Political Cover - Assad Is So Out of Vogue

Assad Is So Out of Vogue - Clifford D. May - National Review Online
But the spring season in Syria is likely to be ghastly as well.
By Clifford D. May
It seems like only yesterday Bashar al-Assad was being courted by progressive Western politicians even as he conspired with Iranian jihadists and Kremlin strongmen. And it was less than two years ago that Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue and comandante of the fashionistas, was celebrating Syrian first lady Asma al-Assad as “a rose in the desert,” whose “style is not the couture-and-bling dazzle of Middle Eastern power but a deliberate lack of adornment . . . a thin, long-limbed beauty with a trained analytic mind who dresses with cunning understatement.”
The Syrian dictator has yet to be pried from power, but with the Kremlin sending war ships for a possible evacuation of Russian citizens, it may not be long before the Assads are passé. That’s good news, isn’t it? In the Middle East, “yes” and “no” are rarely correct answers.
We can say this: Assad’s downfall would be preferable to Assad’s survival. As U.S. Central Command chief General James N. Mattis told Congress last March, regime change in Syria would represent “the biggest strategic setback for Iran in 25 years.” And Iran — ruled by a regime that is building nuclear weapons, has plotted terrorism from Buenos Aires to Georgetown, threatens Israel with genocide, and proclaims jihad against the “Great Satan” — is unquestionably the free world’s most vexing challenge.

France, Yes, France! Understands Constitutional Rights - Freedom Fries!

Freedom Fries! - By Mark Steyn - The Corner - National Review Online

By Mark Steyn  December 29, 2012  full short post

France’s Conseil Constitutionnel sides with Gérard Depardieu:
France’s constitutional council has struck down a top income tax rate of 75% introduced by Socialist President Francois Hollande…
In its ruling on Saturday, the Constitutional Council said the new tax rate “failed to recognise equality before public burdens” because, unlike other forms of income tax, it was to be applied to individuals rather than households.
“Equality before public burdens”: what a beautiful concept. No chance of it catching on over here, alas. And there’s more:
The constitutional court lowered a series of other tax increases, calling them excessive or saying they also violated equality of treatment for taxpayers.
“Equality of treatment for taxpayers”: there’s another beautiful concept. Maybe John Roberts can arrange a judicial work-exchange program.

Laws Are for Little People - Time for the Little People to Start Disobeying The Ones From The Big People!

A gun in the hands of a Secret Service agent protecting the President isn’t a bad word. A gun in the hands of a soldier protecting the United States isn’t a bad word.
And when you hear the glass breaking in your living room at 3 a.m. and call 911, you won’t be able to pray hard enough for a gun in the hands of a good guy to get there fast enough to protect you.
So why is the idea of a gun good when it’s used to protect our President or our country or our police, but bad when it’s used to protect our children in their schools? ...
Is the press and political class here in Washington so consumed by fear and hatred of the NRA and America’s gun owners that you’re willing to accept a world where real resistance to evil monsters is a lone, unarmed school principal left to surrender her life to shield the children in her care? No one — regardless of personal political prejudice — has the right to impose that sacrifice.
from the NRA: Wayne LaPierre’s press conference speech 12-21-12

"Laws are for the little people — and little people need lots of little laws, ensnaring them at every turn."

And not for David Gregory.

A week ago on NBC’s Meet the Press, David Gregory brandished on screen a high-capacity magazine. To most media experts, a “high-capacity magazine” means an ad-stuffed double issue of Vanity Fair with the triple-page perfume-scented pullouts. But apparently in America’s gun-nut gun culture of gun-crazed gun kooks, it’s something else entirely, and it was this latter kind that Mr. Gregory produced in order to taunt Wayne LaPierre of the NRA. As the poster child for America’s gun-crazed gun-kook gun culture, Mr. LaPierre would probably have been more scared by the host waving around a headily perfumedVanity Fair. But that was merely NBC’s first miscalculation. It seems a high-capacity magazine is illegal in the District of Columbia, and the flagrant breach of D.C. gun laws is now under investigation by the police.
This is, declared NYU professor Jay Rosen, “the dumbest media story of 2012.” Why? Because, as CNN’s Howard Kurtz breezily put it, everybody knows David Gregory wasn’t “planning to commit any crimes.”
So what? Neither are the overwhelming majority of his fellow high-capacity-magazine-owning Americans. Yet they’re expected to know, as they drive around visiting friends and family over Christmas, the various and contradictory gun laws in different jurisdictions. Ignorantia juris non excusat is one of the oldest concepts in civilized society: Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Back when there was a modest and proportionate number of laws, that was just about doable. But in today’s America there are laws against everything, and any one of us at any time is unknowingly in breach of dozens of them. And in this case NBC were informed by the D.C. police that it would be illegal to show the thing on TV, and they went ahead and did it anyway: You’ll never take me alive, copper! You’ll have to pry my high-capacity magazine from my cold dead fingers! When the D.C. SWAT team, the FBI, and the ATF take out NBC News and the whole building goes up in one almighty fireball, David Gregory will be the crazed loon up on the roof like Jimmy Cagney inWhite Heat: “Made it, Ma! Top of the world!” At last, some actual must-see TV on that lousy network.

While the Rest of the Country Suffers… Obama Gives Joe Biden and Congress a Raise » Common Sense Evaluation

Barack Obama issued an executive order giving a pay raise to Joe Biden and members of Congress.
The Weekly Standard reported:
President Barack Obama issued an executive order to end the pay freeze on federal employees, in effect giving some federal workers a raise. One federal worker now to receive a pay increase is Vice President Joe Biden.
According to disclosure forms, Biden made a cool $225,521 last year. After the pay increase, he’ll now make $231,900 per year.
Members of Congress, from the House and Senate, also will receive a little bump, as their annual salary will go from $174,000 to 174,900. Leadership in Congress, including the speaker of the House, will likewise get an increase.
Meanwhile… For the rest of America, median household income has dropped $4,520, or about one month’s average wages, since President Obama took office

Memo to GOP: Make Obama Own the Mess He’s Created

12-28-12
Anybody who’s thought about it for two seconds knows we don’t have a taxing problem – we have a spending problem.
We borrow about 42 cents on every dollar we spend, and under President Obama we’ve been spending more than $1 trillion dollars a year we don’t have.  That’s where the borrowing comes in.
Yet almost all the talk we get from the president and from his stenographers in the media is about taxes.  The wealthiest Americans need to pay their “fair share.”  As Meghan Clyne put it in a Wall Street Journal column, “If the U.S. Treasury received a dollar every time President Obama demanded that the rich pay their ‘fair share’ to eliminate our deficits, the problem might take care of itself.”
If the government doesn’t get spending under control – and by that I don’t mean cutting the rate of increases, but actually cutting spending – the next stop on the Crazy Train we’re all riding will be downtown Athens.

Given that hypocrisy is an important part of diplomacy, and diplomacy is necessary to foreign policy, allow me to congratulate you on winning a second term.
I wish I could also congratulate you on your conduct of international affairs. I do thank you for killing Osama bin Laden. It was a creditable action for which you deserve some of the credit you've been given. Of course the intelligence was gathered, and the mission was undertaken, by men and women who, although they answer to your command, answer to duty first. And it is difficult to imagine any president of the United States who, under the circumstances, wouldn't have ordered the strike against bin Laden. Although there is Jimmy Carter. Thank you for not being Jimmy Carter.
But even though it violates the insincere amity that creates a period of calm following national elections, no thank you for the following, and it is only a partial list:
• Telling the Taliban to play by the rules or you'll take your ball and go home;
• Leaving Iraq in a lurch (and in a hurry);
• Watching the EU go down the sink drain and into the Greece trap and wanting to take America along on the trip;
• Miscalculating human rights and strategic engagement in the Chinese arithmetic of your China policy;
• Being the personification of bad weather during the Arab Spring with your chilly response when you encountered its best aspects and your frozen inaction when you encountered its worst;
• Playing with Russian nesting dolls, opening hollow figurine after hollow figurine hoping to find one that doesn't look like Vladimir Putin;

• Sitting and doing nothing like a couch potato watching a made-for-TV movie as the Castro and Chávez zombies continue their rampage;
• Hugging the door on your date with Israel;
• Putting the raw meat of incentives in your pants pocket when you go to scold the pit bulls of Iran and North Korea;

Gun owner map ricochet: Blogger publishes journalists' personal data - CSMonitor.com

A newspaper published names and addresses of thousands of legal handgun owners, generating widespread criticism. In retaliation, a blogger mapped the names and addresses of the journalists.

The flap over the newspaper that published information about handgun owners in two New Yorkcounties has ricocheted back toward the news organization.

Thousands of critics – including some journalism professionals – have weighed in. And at least one blogger has retaliated by publishing the names and addresses of editors and executives at the Journal News, the publication headquartered in White Plains, N.Y., north of New York City and part of the Gannettorganization.
Still, the Journal News is not backing down. Editors say they’ll publish information on handgun owners in a third county (Putnam) once county officials have responded to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request that resulted in tens of thousands of names and addresses in Westchester and Rockland Counties. [Always arrogant!]

Shill for the Left, David Gregory Mocks NRA Leader for Proposing Armed Guards in Schools But Sends His Kids to a School with 11 Armed Guards

David Gregory Mocks NRA Leader for Proposing Armed Guards in Schools But Sends His Kids to a School with 11 Armed Guards - Leah Barkoukis
Dc. 26, 2012  Full short post

In the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre, Rep. Louie Gohmert told Fox News’ Chris Wallace that he wished the principal had a gun to prevent the carnage from taking place. NRA leader Wayne LaPierre agreed with the idea of having armed guards in our schools, saying that, “It’s the one thing we can do immediately that can make our children more safe.” NBC’s David Gregory mocked LaPierre’s proposal, however, which brings to light (yet again) the blatant hypocrisy of some of the most vocal proponents of gun control.
But when it comes to Gregory's own kids, however, they are secured every school day by armed guards.
The Gregory children go to school with the children of President Barack Obama, according to the Washington Post. That school is the co-ed Quaker school Sidwell Friends.
According to a scan of the school's online faculty-staff directory, Sidwell has a security department made up of at least 11 people. Many of those are police officers, who are presumably armed.
Moreover, with the Obama kids in attendance, there is a secret service presence at the institution, as well.
It's safe to say the school where Gregory sends his kids is a high-security school. It's just odd he'd want it for his kids, but wouldn't be more open to it for others.

The Government is our enemy! Here is an example why » Fast and Furious, the Very Early Years

The government figured people were drinking too much during prohibition, so it decided it could reduce alcohol consumption by poisoning in the alcohol. "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you." m/r

Ed Driscoll » Fast and Furious, the Very Early Years

By Ed Driscoll On December 26, 2012  In Capitalismthe Unknown Ideal,Liberal Fascism,The Future and its Enemies,The Memory Hole,The Return of the Primitive -Full short post-
“The Chemist’s War: The little-told* story of how the U.S. government poisoned alcohol during Prohibition with deadly consequences:”
Frustrated that people continued to consume so much alcohol even after it was banned, federal officials had decided to try a different kind of enforcement. They ordered the poisoning of industrial alcohols manufactured in the United States, products regularly stolen by bootleggers and resold as drinkable spirits. The idea was to scare people into giving up illicit drinking. Instead, by the time Prohibition ended in 1933, the federal poisoning program, by some estimates, had killed at least 10,000 people.
Although mostly forgotten today, the “chemist’s war of Prohibition” remains one of the strangest and most deadly decisions in American law-enforcement history. As one of its most outspoken opponents, Charles Norris, the chief medical examiner of New York City during the 1920s, liked to say, it was “our national experiment in extermination.” Poisonous alcohol still kills—16 people died just this month after drinking lethal booze in Indonesia, where bootleggers make their own brews to avoid steep taxes—but that’s due to unscrupulous businessmen rather than government order.
I learned of the federal poisoning program while researching my new book, The Poisoner’s Handbook, which is set in jazz-age New York. My first reaction was that I must have gotten it wrong. “I never heard that the government poisoned people during Prohibition, did you?” I kept saying to friends, family members, colleagues.
I did, however, remember the U.S. government’s controversial decision in the 1970s to spray Mexican marijuana fields with Paraquat, an herbicide. Its use was primarily intended to destroy crops, but government officials also insisted that awareness of the toxin would deter marijuana smokers. They echoed the official position of the 1920s—if some citizens ended up poisoned, well, they’d brought it upon themselves. Although Paraquat wasn’t really all that toxic, the outcry forced the government to drop the plan. Still, the incident created an unsurprising lack of trust in government motives, which reveals itself in the occasional rumors circulating today that federal agencies, such as the CIA, mix poison into the illegal drug supply.
Fortunately, in these more enlightened times, the government wouldn’t deliberately risk killing innocent people to further a goal that self-described “Progressives” have long championed, would they? Oh wait
* Yes, it’s true that everything the average person knows about the last 100 years is probably wrong. But why is this anecdote such a little-told story?

Mark Steyn on 'White Christmas,' the original Christmas no1

His [Irving Berlin's] life and his art are part of the definition of America. Whatever his doubts about God, Berlin kept faith with his adopted land — and that faith is what millions heard 70 years ago in ‘White Christmas’.

Mark Steyn on 'White Christmas,' the original Christmas no1 » Spectator Blogs
 24 December 2012

Some songs are hits — Number One for a couple of weeks. Some songs are standards — they endure decade after decade. And a few very rare songs reach way beyond either category, to embed themselves so deeply in the collective consciousness they become part of the soundtrack of society. They start off the same as all the other numbers — written for a show or a movie, a singer or an event — but they float free of the writer, they outlast the singer, transcend the movie, change the event. There were a couple of what we now think of as seasonal standards that predated Irving Berlin’s entry into the field, yet neither became a pillar of the Xmas pop repertoire, because until ‘White Christmas’ came along there was no such thing.
But, in the decade after Bing Crosby introduced the number in Holiday Inn (1942), Berlin’s colleagues responded with ‘Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!’, ‘Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer’, ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’, ‘Frosty The Snowman’ — all the ‘Yule Day gravy’ (as Variety put it) that in one order or another makes up every Christmas album from Andy Williams to ’N Sync. In a fragmented culture, these are now the last songs we all sing, whether our tastes incline to rap or country or the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They represent the zenith of a universal popular culture we’re unlikely to see again.
When something’s that big, you take it for granted. If you’ve heard ‘White Christmas’ in a shopping mall or elevator or while stuck in touch-tone hell trying to make a telephone booking, you don’t usually think, ‘Gee, “White Christmas” again. That must be the 50th version this month.’ But, if you did, you’d want to know how it got that way. What particular combination of circumstances blessed ‘White Christmas’ out of all the other songs written that month? Berlin, wrote Jody Rosen in his book about the anthem, ‘had tried to kick-start the Tin Pan Alley Christmas song some years before.’ In 1912, the year after his first big hit with ‘Alexander’s Ragtime Band’, he’d published ‘Christmas Time Seems Years and Years Away’, which, from his point of view, it was. Before radio, before a real record industry, the sheet-music business couldn’t see the point of working a song that would be dead on 26 December. The notion that it might be a seasonal insurance policy, returning year after year for decade after decade, never occurred to them.

Christmas Sadness, only by grace go thee. The Massacre of the Innocents

The Newtown killings ought to occasion a little modesty and circumspection.
The Massacre of the Innocents - Mark Steyn - National Review Online
Dec. 21, 2012

‘Lullay, Thou little tiny Child, by by, lully, lullay . . . ”
The 16th-century Coventry Carol, a mother’s lament for her lost son, is the only song of the season about the other children of Christmas — the first-born of Bethlehem, slaughtered on Herod’s orders after the Magi brought him the not-so-glad tidings that an infant of that city would grow up to be King of the Jews. As Matthew tells it, even in a story of miraculous birth, in the midst of life is death. The Massacre of the Innocents loomed large over the Christian imagination: In Rubens’s two renderings, he fills the canvas with spear-wielding killers, wailing mothers, and dead babies, a snapshot, one assumes, of the vaster, bloodier body count beyond the frame. Then a century ago the Catholic Encyclopedia started digging into the numbers. The estimated population of Bethlehem at that time was around a thousand, which would put the toll of first-born sons under the age of two murdered by King Herod at approximately 20 — or about the same number of dead children as one school shooting on a December morning in Connecticut. “Every man a king,” promised Huey Long. And, if it doesn’t quite work out like that, well, every man his own Herod.
Had my child been among the dead of December 14, I don’t know that I would ever again trust the contours of the world. The years go by, and you’re sitting in a coffee shop with a neighbor, and out of the corner of your eye a guy walks in who looks a little goofy and is maybe muttering to himself: Is he just a harmless oddball — or the prelude to horror? The bedrock of life has been shattered, and ever after you’re walking on a wobbling carpet with nothing underneath. For a parent to bury a child offends against the natural order — at least in an age that has conquered childhood mortality. For a parent to bury a child at Christmas taints the day forever, and mocks its meaning.
For those untouched by death this Christmas, someone else’s bewildering, shattering turn of fate ought to occasion a little modesty and circumspection. Instead, even by its usual execrable standards, the public discourse post-Newtown has been stupid and contemptible. The Left now seizes on every atrocity as a cudgel to beat whatever happens to be the Right’s current hottest brand: Tucson, Ariz., was something to do with Sarah Palin’s use of metaphor and other common literary devices — or “toxic rhetoric,” as Paul Krugman put it; Aurora, Colo., was something to do with the Tea Party, according to Brian Ross of ABC News. Since the humiliations of November, the Right no longer has any hot brands, so this time round the biens pensants have fallen back on “gun culture.” Dimwit hacks bandy terms like “assault weapon,” “assault rifle,” “semiautomatic,” and “automatic weapon” in endlessly interchangeable but ever more terrifying accumulations of high-tech state-of-the-art killing power. As the comedian Andy Borowitz tweeted, “When the 2nd Amendment was written the most lethal gun available was the musket.”
Actually, the semiautomatic is a 19th-century technology, first produced in 1885. That’s just under half a century after the death of Madison, the Second Amendment’s author, and rather nearer to the Founding Fathers’ time than our own. And the Founders were under fewer illusions about the fragility of society than Hollywood funnymen: On July 25, 1764, four Lenape Indians walked into a one-room schoolhouse in colonial Pennsylvania and killed Enoch Brown and ten of his pupils. One child survived, scalped and demented to the end of his days.
Nor am I persuaded by the Right’s emphasis on preemptive mental-health care.

Merry Christmas Americans, You Are the Biggest Suckers of All

All that can be said is "What's good for GM" ... is not what's good for Americans! m/r

Workers at GM, Ford to Score Nice Bonuses This Year - 24/7 Wall St.
December 21, 2012

Profit-sharing bonuses for United Auto Workers’ members at Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) and General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) are expected to be at least as large as last year’s payout at General Motors and larger than the year-ago bonuses paid at Ford. Approximately 55,000 GM hourly workers and 40,000 Ford employees are in line for the payments.

GM workers can expect bonuses of between $5,500 and $7,000, and Ford’s employees could receive a payment of more than $8,000 each, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal. The payments are based on a formula that gives workers a $1 bonus for every $1 million in North American operating profit at the two companies.
U.S. auto sales are on track to top 14.5 million units in 2012, up 14% over last year’s sales total. In the first three quarters of the year, GM has posted operating profit of $5.55 billion and Ford’s profit totals nearly $6.5 billion. And the fourth quarter looks good too.

Unexpectedly!

Not too unexpected. The reverse immigration from California will continue until there is little left to bleed dry. I was born in California, third generation of my family who were all born there for over 130 years. I have a mental, lovely image of the place that now only exists in my dreams.
California is like an aging, once beautify and intelligent, ex-wife who has drifted into deep depression. She has put on too much makeup and gaudy costumes, become grossly obese with a bad heart, mind and high blood pressure. She became deeply in debt by financial ineptitude and just plain insanity. She became infested by illegal, welfare seeking Mexicans, who were not part of her original great Spanish and Californio Heritage, and Easterners escaping from other States, the places with bloated corrupt Democrat run governments, who brought those terrible models to California (personified in Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer). Like typhoid carriers, they brought with them and infect California with that from which they were originally escaping. But they couldn't help themselves and would change. They ruined the eastern states with their brand of politics and found the ripest and biggest populated state ruin the worst of all.
What will save California? It looks too grim; possibly a massive earthquake? m/r

Or not: “Chevron Corp. will move up to 800 jobs — about a quarter of its current headquarters staff — from the Bay Area to Houston over the next two years but will remain based in San Ramon, the oil company told employees Thursday.”
Of course, now it’s 9,800 employees in Texas and 9,100 employees in California. But don’t read anything into that:
“It’s important to reiterate that we are a California-based company,” said Chevron spokesman Morgan Crinklaw. “We’ve been an important part of the state’s economy and growth for 130 years, and we remain committed to this state.”
Which is exactly the kind of thing professional spokespeople say right before they pull up stakes and head for the hills.

The Rosett Report » Jobs Galore! Guess Where…

 By Claudia Rosett On December 23, 2012
America’s economy is a scary scene these days, with colossal government spending, borrowing and tax uncertainties looming like a tsunami heading for the beach. If there’s a disaster coming, where can a hard-working American run for succor? Well, as they say, follow the money — in this case, follow where some of your own tax dollars have been going. If you follow them to the United Nations, where America bankrolls roughly one-quarter of the UN’s system-wide budget, now estimated to exceed more than $30 billion per year, there appear to be jobs galore. And there’s not much need to worry that these will go away. The UN is a place where, for the most part, no matter how anti-American, anti-Semitic, depraved, insane, self-serving or merely pointless its use of its ample trove of other people’s money, the U.S. government just carries on forking over the cash.

Gun Control and Genocide

Here is the real sad legacy of gun control.

Gun Control and Genocide

Down through history, governments have disarmed their citizens only to tyrannize those citizens once they were disarmed.

The following chart documents just a few examples from recent history where "gun control" laws were enacted and then tyranny by the government proceeded.

Blackness Gestapo Attack on RGIII Typical

Jefferson's Rebels: Blackness Gestapo Attack on RGIII Typical
12-20-12 By Lloyd Marcus
Proud Unhyphenated American

RGIII (Robert Griffin III), superstar quarterback of the Washington Redskins is the latest black under attack by the Blackness Gestapo. The Blackness Gestapo are racists, black and white, who troll the airways keeping blacks in-check, faithful to their blackness. They believe to be authentically black, one must behave and think in certain ways. Blackness Gestapo mandated authorized black behavior includes having a chip on your shoulder against whites, maintaining an eternal victim and entitlement mindset, never achieving success without Democratic Party programs and never ever voting Republican. Blacks must call themselves African-Americans and display an urban edge via their speech, attire and attitude.

Blackness Gestapo enforcer, ESPN analyst Rob Parker accused RGIII of not being black enough.  Griffin comes from a great military family. His fiance is white. He is extremely articulate. He wants to be judged by his performance on the football field without regard of his skin color. Wow, what a radical concept in our new “everything-is-about-race” Obama America. Doesn't RGIII sound like he embraces the dream of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr that people be judged by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin?

But worst of all, rumor has it that Griffin might be a Republican.

The idiotic self imposed suppression of black liberation and growth by the Blackness Gestapo goes way back.

Robert Bork’s lasting legacy

One more ironic legacy, in addition to Robert Bork's public influence on original intent for strict construction, was from the evil brought by Teddy Kennedy. Kennedy, in his underhanded, unscrupulous smear of Bork, luckily for the nation, accidentally saved us from another anti-American Supreme Court nomination. And this time, had Bork died while serving on the bench, a conservative justice would be replaced with another radical. m/r

The Original Originalist by Adam Freedman - City Journal
ADAM FREEDMAN 20 December 2012

With the passing of Judge Robert Bork at 85, America has lost one of its most influential legal scholars. Though media obituaries tend to focus on Bork’s unsuccessful nomination to the Supreme Court in 1987, Bork’s legacy is one, not of failure, but of enormous success.
Bork had a lengthy career before and after his brush with the Senate’s brutal confirmation process. Prior to his nomination, he had served for two decades on the Yale Law School faculty and for five years as a federal appellate judge. As an academic, Bork revolutionized antitrust law, which deals with monopolies. He established consumer protection as the only proper justification for anti-monopoly laws. Today, Bork’s interpretation of antitrust law is widely accepted.
More important, Bork is one of a handful of jurists who succeeded in changing the way Americans view our supreme law: the Constitution. In 1987, originalism—the doctrine that the Constitution should be applied as originally understood—was considered a fringe theory. The reigning philosophy in academia and on the bench was that we have a “living Constitution,” in short, that judges can unilaterally change the document’s meaning. In his 1990 book, The Tempting of America, Bork became the first scholar to provide a detailed explanation of originalism for the general public. He also dispelled the myth that originalism seeks to divine the secret intentions of the Constitution’s framers. Rather, it is an attempt to understand how the text would have been understood by “those who ratified our Constitution and its various amendments.” Bork explained that this task was vital “because what the ratifiers understood themselves to be enacting must be taken to be what the public of that time would have understood the words to mean.”
When President Reagan nominated Bork to the Supreme Court, no one questioned his qualifications. Just five years earlier, he had been unanimously confirmed for the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, having earned an “exceptionally well qualified” label from the American Bar Association. But in the interim, the Democratic Party had taken control of the Senate. Senator Ted Kennedy orchestrated a smear campaign against Bork so breathtaking in its distortion that even the liberalWashington Post denounced it as a “lynching.” On October 3, 1987, the Senate rejected Bork’s nomination on a 58-42 vote.
