Ronald Reagan to be honored in Czech capital

“The words ‘Reagan’ and ‘freedom’ are synonymous”

Ronald Reagan to be honored in Czech capital | Czech Position
Ex-US president Ronald Reagan will be honored in Prague on Friday when part of a street in the Czech capital is named after him.

The Czech capital Prague on Friday will join the tributes marking the demise 20 years ago of the Soviet-era Warsaw Pact and the legacy of the late US President Ronald Reagan — a conservative Republican who is still revered by many in the former Soviet satellite states for his vehemently anti-Communist stance — by naming a street after him.

Ironically, the street selected is where the US ambassadorial residence, occupied by a former close advisor to Democrat President Barack Obama and that administration’s “ethics czar,” Norman Eisen, is sited. Eisen’s visiting card and all other letterheads will have to bear the name Ulice Ronalda Reagana (Ronald Reagan Street) in future. ...

...“This is a symbolic step and recognition from the Czech Republic,” said the spokesman for the Prague 6 district, Martin Ĺ alek. “The words ‘Reagan’ and ‘freedom’ are synonymous,” he added.

Ronald Reagan statue unveiled in Hungary

Class Tells!
The Associated Press: Ronald Reagan statue unveiled in Hungary
By PABLO GOROND June 29,2011

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — A statue of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan was unveiled Wednesday in Hungary's capital, where he was honored for his leadership in helping to end communism.

The bronze 2-meter (7-foot) likeness of the 40th president was erected in Budapest at Freedom Square, near both the U.S. Embassy and a World War II memorial to Soviet soldiers killed during the ouster of the Nazis from Hungary.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban and former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice helped unveil the statue Wednesday.

Reagan was remembered for the aid and encouragement he gave Hungary and other former Soviet satellite states in Eastern Europe to gain back their freedom.

Reagan "changed the world and created a new world for Central Europe," Orban said at the unveiling ceremony. "He tore down the walls which were erected in the path of freedom in the name of distorted and sick ideologies."

Rice said the cause of the freedom fighters in Hungary's failed anti-Soviet revolution in 1956 deepened Reagan's commitment to ending communist rule around the world.

"The men and women of '56 inspired Americans and all free peoples never again to leave those alone who are struggling for their freedom," Rice said. "And they inspired most of all Ronald Reagan."

For one group of London expats, next Monday will be particularly special. Following a weekend of Independence Day celebrations, hundreds of Americans are expected to gather in Grosvenor Square to unveil the statue of a man who became the incarnation of the special relationship.

Thirty years ago, when Ronald Wilson Reagan became the 40th President of the United States, there were many who mocked him as a washed-up Hollywood has-been. With his country traumatised after Vietnam and Watergate, with inflation soaring, oil prices rocketing and the Middle East in flames, American prestige seemed at its lowest ebb.

Yet on Monday, Margaret Thatcher’s great soulmate will become only the fifth U.S. President to have his own monument in the mother country — following George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower.

Gov. Jerry Brown has signed into law California's tax on Internet sales through affiliate advertising which will immediately cut small-business website revenue 20% to 30%, experts say.

The bill, AB 28X, takes effect immediately. The state Board of Equalization says the tax will raise $200 million a year, but critics claim it will raise nothing because online retailers will end their affiliate programs rather than collect the tax.

John Kerry: "I Would Have Been A Good President, Maybe Even A Great One"

Just Jews?! Jewish Dems losing faith in Obama

Obama telegraphed his favoritism to the Muslim world over Israel (and some would say over the US) in his 2008 Campaign. Why would anyone be surprised about Jews not trusting him. Who does?
If you want some background on the lurking anti-Semitism, just review some of what the Rev. Wright said from his pulpit and to reporters. Those are the things Obama "never heard" from his Pastor, the one who performed his wedding, over the twenty plus years Obama attended Wright's sermons.
The Jewish friends I know voted Republican for the first time in 2008 because of Obama. That sense seems to be spreading.

Jewish Dems losing faith in Obama - POLITICO.com Print View

By: Ben Smith
June 29, 2011 04:32 AM EDT

David Ainsman really began to get worried about President Barack Obama’s standing with his fellow Jewish Democrats when a recent dinner with his wife and two other couples — all Obama voters in 2008 — nearly turned into a screaming match.

Ainsman, a prominent Democratic lawyer and Pittsburgh Jewish community leader, was trying to explain that Obama had just been offering Israel a bit of “tough love” in his May 19 speech on the Arab Spring. His friends disagreed — to say the least.

One said he had the sense that Obama “took the opportunity to throw Israel under the bus.” Another, who swore he wasn’t getting his information from the mutually despised Fox News, admitted he’d lost faith in the president.

If several dozen interviews with POLITICO are any indication, a similar conversation is taking place in Jewish communities across the country. ...

Maryland High Schools Now Requiring 'Environmental Literacy' | The Weekly Standard
JUN 28, 2011 • BY MARK HEMINGWAY

Sure, we're routinely graduating kids in this country that can't read or do basic math -- but hey, let's lard up the curriculum with a bunch of politicized nonsense, shall we?:

Maryland is the first state in the country to impose a new requirement to graduate from high school -- something called environmental literacy. ....

The foundation for jobs is basic literacy -- not environmental literacy. You simply can't have the latter without the former, and having driven through Baltimore recently, it seems really hard to believe that state schools are succeeding at their core educational mission sufficiently to devote new energy and resources extraneous curricular matters such as this.

This stupidity and Compact Florescent Bulbs, and the depart of education and green jobs are all absolute nonsense that we pay and pay and pay again for. They should be called the Sack-o-what dollars.

Inside the Fed’s Vault: $1 Billion Worth of Unused Coins | Moneyland | TIME.com
....Each coin costs the government 30 cents to make, so the piles in those vaults have cost the government $300 million so far, according to NPR.

The whole thing started in 2005, when the Presidential $1 Coin Act was written into law. While the legislation seemed to have good intentions, when the U.S. Mint started producing the coins a couple years later, the demand just wasn’t there. I mean, had you even heard of the presidential $1 coins, let alone seen one?

At the same time, the legislation mandated that a certain number of Sacagawea coins be made in conjunction with the presidential coins, which has now amounted to one Sacagawea for every president. And I think we know how well those coins went over. ...

The prescience of TOP GEAR (BBC) R.I.P. Tesla

Top Gear gave the Electric Sports Car, Tesla, every possible chance, but the car was a disaster. Instead of trying to fix it, the government subsidised Tesla threaten suit against the honest and funny Top Gear show on this dreadful and costly vehicle.

The American Spectator : R.I.P. Tesla

Chalk this up to "Lesson Not Learned."

The Tesla electric sports car is dead -- a victim of its own defective economics. This was not unpredictable.

The company created an electric version of the gas-powered Lotus sports car -- and tried to sell it for twice the price of the gas-powered version.

Just 1,650 of these electric lemons found people rich enough -- and dumb enough -- to spend $109,000 for a $51,845 Lotus Elise stripped of its perfectly good gasoline engine and converted to run on electricity.

Apparently, some forms of green still matter more than others.

Her mother, who was in a wheelchair, was asked to remove an adult diaper in order to complete a pat-down search.

“It’s something I couldn’t imagine happening on American soil,” Weber said Friday. “Here is my mother, 95 years old, 105 pounds, barely able to stand, and then this.”

Someone did some shooting near the Gay Pride Festival in San Francisco Saturday The shootings were unrelated to the Pride Festival, and involved gang members shooting at each other. On Saturday, the AP had this story.

NECN - ‎19 hours ago‎

Police say they are searching for a suspect who Dangerfield described as a 6-foot-tall man in his 20s with dreadlocks.

Note the presumably deliberate omission of the word “black.” This just crazy. This is a guy who at the time of the story was on the loose, and a danger to citizens of San Francisco, and news sources won’t tell people what he looks like.

Two suspects have since been arrested-described as 16 and 18 years old, no names, no physical descriptions.[2 teens arrested for shooting near SF Pride, Sunday, June 26, 2011] Whatever perverse ideology makes the press suppress mentions of black crime is bad enough when they’re talking about suspects in custody, but not when they’re on the loose. When Seung-Hui Cho was actively shooting up Virginia Tech, would they have told students listening to the news that there was a “Virginian” running amok?

And it’s Fox News,(12,000,000 results for Fox News racist) which has been described by Sarah Silverman as a 24-Hour-A-Day Racism Engine, which is doing it.

Woman's leg broken, others hurt in Spring Garden mob attack | Philadelphia Daily News | 06/27/2011 [full post to show complete story and its obvious omission.]

Mon, Jun. 27, 2011 By STEPHANI FARR, Philadelphia Daily News, farrs@phillynews.com 215-854-4225

A WOMAN'S leg was broken and several other people were injured Saturday night when a large group of teens accosted pedestrians in Spring Garden, police and witnesses said.

Philadelphia police responded to two reports of pedestrians being assaulted by a large group of young people along Broad Street about 9:30 p.m.

One of those reports came from Emily Guendelsberger, 27, city editor for local arts and entertainment content for the Onion, the satirical newspaper and website. She was walking with seven friends on Green Street near Broad when they were accosted, she said. Guendelsberger, who remained hospitalized with a broken leg yesterday, declined to comment further.

A friend who was with her at the time, Daily News staff writer Molly Eichel, said that they were walking down Green Street when a group of teens was walking down Broad. "We heard kids yell, 'Run, run,' " Eichel said. "Some kid just came out of nowhere and punched my friend Charlie in the face."

Eichel said that when her group tried to run, about 20 teens chased them down the street. "They were kicking kids down and punching them when they were down," she said.

Two other friends sought treatment at area hospitals for facial injuries, Eichel said.

The only redeeming factor about the experience was that a few people realized the extent of Guendelsberger's injuries and tried to protect her, Eichel said.

From the hospital yesterday, Guendelsberger gave her protectors shout-outs on Twitter. "On the positive, a bunch of girls from the mob protected me from the boys trying to hit me and take my purse while I was on the ground," she wrote. "Also a car of women from out of town saw it going down, pulled over, and (I gather) circled around to protect me; wish I had gotten names."

According to the police report of the incident, Guendelsberger was "jumped" by 30 to 40 men who punched and kicked her numerous times. Police said they checked the area for surveillance but had no luck.

Shortly before Guendelsberger's assault, police said, they responded to another assault, about five blocks away at Broad Street and Fairmount Avenue, of a 20-year-old man who said that he was attacked by a large group of men and women.

Police said that he was treated for a bruise and abrasion under his right eye.

Twitter users said that the mob ranged from 50 to 100 people and that participants not only assaulted people but also threw trash cans and lit fireworks.

Peorians living in fear of "African Americans"?

What are "African American" youth gangs doing rioting in South Africa? Black South Africans are a distinct probability, unless are the Crips and Bloods going native African?

Or this this a phony story? [full post listed]

The Peoria Chronicle, Peorians living in fear

This eye-witness account is from Paul Wilkinson, president of the Altamont Park Neighborhood Association:

Tonight, around 11 p.m., a group of at least 60-70 African American youth marched down one of the side streets (W. Thrush) to the 4 lane main drag (Sheridan). They were yelling threats to white residents. Things such as we need to kill alll the white people around here. They were physically intimidating anyone calling for help from the police. They were surrounding cars. Cars on the main drag had to slam on their brakes to either avoid the youth blocking not only all four lanes, but a large section of the side street as well. fights were breaking out among them. They were rushing residents who looked out their doors, going on to porches, yelling threats to people calling the police for help.

Cars were doing U turns on the streets just to avoid the mob, mostly male. One youth stated his grandfather was white and several assaulted him on the spot. One police officer answered the call. The youth split into two large groups, one heading north, the other south. They were also yelling racial threats to the police officer but he was outnumbered. Another police car did not show up until after the youth finally dispersed and the patty wagon (van) also eventually showed up.

Residents are very shaken, both black and white alike. This is the fifth large mob action in about a month with smaller groups of 10-12 are out threatening children and adults a few evenings a week or later into the night. The times vary, even occuring during the day. In talking to the police officer, they are short staffed. Residents were advised to simply keep inside and to lock their doors. In other words buckle down, it’s not even safe to sit on your porch or go into your yards.

“The fifth large mob action in about a month.” Wow. This is really outrageous. Why is this neighborhood having to put up with this? “Residents were advised to simply keep inside and to lock their doors”? Seriously? That’s the best we can do for our fellow citizens’ safety?

This needs to be addressed, and quickly.

an excerpt from the PC suck-up sports writer:
On a balmy early Saturday summer evening, the U.S soccer team played for a prestigious championship in a U.S. stadium … and was smothered in boos.
Its fans were vastly outnumbered. Its goalkeeper was bathed in a chanted obscenity. Even its national anthem was filled with the blowing of air horns and bouncing of beach balls.
Goalkeeper Tim Howard was still upset after the U.S. lost the Gold Cup final, but his strongest reaction had nothing to do with the four goals Mexico slotted in his net.
After El Tri's 4-2 victory at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., Howard blasted CONCACAF officials for conducting the title ceremony in Spanish.
"CONCACAF should be ashamed of themselves," Howard said. "I think it was a [expletive] disgrace that the entire postmatch ceremony was in Spanish. You can bet your ass that if we were in Mexico City, it wouldn't be all in English.

The Government is the ENEMY NOW - here is more than a symptom as to why-

Need a Light Bulb? Uncle Sam Gets to Choose: Virginia Postrel - Bloomberg
Jun 10, 2011
If you want to know why so many Americans feel alienated from their government, you need only go to Target and check out the light bulb aisle. Instead of the cheap commodities of yesteryear, you’ll find what looks like evidence of a flourishing, technology-driven economy.

There are “ultrasoft” bulbs promising “softer soft white longer life” light, domed halogens for “bright crisp light” and row upon row of Energy Smart bulbs -- some curled in the by-now- familiar compact fluorescent form, some with translucent shells that reveal only hints of the twisting tubes within.

It seems to be a dazzling profusion of choice. But, at least in California, where I live, this plenitude no longer includes what most shoppers want: an inexpensive, plain-vanilla 100-watt incandescent bulb.

Greedy Cities and Towns lose money, serves the b'tards right! Challenges to red light cameras span US

Money grubbing politicians and bureaucrats bow the the High Priest of false security for revenue. Electronic technology cost more than it brings in on its scam fines.
This is a well deserved "Felix Unger" to them!

Challenges to red light cameras span US - US news - Life - msnbc.com
In more than 500 cities and towns in 25 states, silent sentries keep watch over intersections, snapping photos and shooting video of drivers who run red lights...
One of the places is Los Angeles, where, if the Police Commission gets its way, the red light cameras will have to come down in a few weeks. That puts the nation's second-largest city at the leading edge of an anti-camera movement that appears to have been gaining traction across the country in recent weeks....

Opponents of the cameras often argue that they are really just revenue engines for struggling cities and towns, silently dinging motorists for mostly minor infractions. And while guidelines issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say revenue is an invalid justification for the use of the eyes in the sky (see box at right), camera-generated citations do spin off a lot of money in many cities — the nearly 400 cameras in Chicago, for example, generated more than $64 million in 2009, the last year for which complete figures were available.

Los Angeles hasn't been so lucky.

The city gets only a third of the revenue generated by camera citations, many of which go unpaid anyway because judges refuse to enforce them, the city controller's office reported last year. It found in an audit that if you add it all up, operating the cameras has cost $1 million to $1.5 million a year more than they've generated in fines, even as "the program has not been able to document conclusively an increase in public safety."

Another common refrain from critics is that the devices replace a human officer's judgment and discretion with the cold, unforgiving algorithms of a machine.''....

Beeber, of Safer Streets LA, agreed that "as more people get tickets, they start getting mad about it," saying: "You start doing that year after year after year and you start generating enough anger in the populace and it gets to the tipping point."

Woman dies of heart attack caused by shock of waking up at her OWN funeral| Mail Online

  • Started screaming as mourners gathered around coffin saying prayers for her soul

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER updated 24th June 2011

A woman died from a heart attack caused by shock after waking up to discover she had been declared dead - and was being prepared for burial.

As mourning relatives filed past her open coffin the supposedly dead woman suddenly woke up and started screaming as she realised where she was.

Fagilyu Mukhametzyanov, 49, had been wrongly declared deceased by doctors but died for real after hearing mourners saying prayers for her soul to be taken up to heaven in Kazan, Russia.

Devastated husband Fagili Mukhametzyanov, 51, had been told his wife had died of a heart attack after she'd collapsed at home suffering from chest pains.

Mr Mukhametzyanov said: 'Her eyes fluttered and we immediately rushed her back to the hospital but she only lived for another 12 minutes in intensive care before she died again, this time for good.

'I am very angry and want answers. She wasn’t dead when they said she was and they could have saved her.'

Hospital spokesman Minsalih Sahapov said: 'We are carrying out an investigation.'
