A fear that lurks inside us all. Rattlesnake 'Went 'Tssss' With Its Tail'

Little unexpected dangers, that are the stuff of our personal nightmares, can lurk as an unexpected, deadly surprises. Many years ago, I had moved to step out of my car at a rural general store near Pescadero, California. I just happened to notice a movement in the shadow of the car door. It was a 'rattler' that had been lying in the sun. I closed the door quick and watched the snake slide off into the brush. If I hadn't just caught the slight movement, I would have unknowingly stepped into the rattlesnake's strike space.

Eastland County boy recovering from snake bite at school

A Texas trooper collared the rattlesnake that bit an 8-year-old student last week.

A Texas state trooper on Monday captured a rattlesnake at an Eastland elementary school -- four days after it bit a second-grader.

The boy, 8-year-old Edwin Garcia, was released from a Fort Worth hospital on Saturday and is now at home recovering.

Garcia said he was reaching in a cabinet for a towel when the venomous snake appeared out of nowhere and attacked his right hand.

"It bit me," he said. "It went 'tssss' with its tail."

The school, Siebert Elementary, was closed while police, animal experts and volunteers searched for the reptile.
