NJ Gov. Christie Sets Reporter Straight

May 15, 201o

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has a style all his own.

At a news conference Thursday, a reporter asked about a school voucher bill that Christie wants the legislature to pass.

The video, posted by Newark’s Star-Ledger, shows the exchange went like this: “Governor, do you think this sort of confrontational tone can increase your odds in getting this through the legislature?” the reporter asked. Christie replied, “You know, Tom, you must be the thinnest-skinned guy in America, ’cause [if] you think that’s a confrontational tone, you should really see me when I’m pissed.” At this, the room burst into laughter.

He went on to discount the idea that he’s confrontational, and told the assembled reporters, “Like it or not, you guys are stuck with me for four years.” And he summarized how he sees himself: “Blunt, direct, maybe you could just say ‘honest and refreshing.’ Maybe I could see that in your paper tomorrow.”

Gov. Christie Cuts NJ’s Global-Warming Fund

April 14, 2010 11:45 AM

NJ Newsroom:

Gov. Chris Christie is taking $65 million, the entire allocation, from the state’s global warming fund, and $5.9 million, from the toxic waste site cleanup program, to help close the over $10 billion deficit in his $29.3 billion 2010-11 state budget, the state environmental protection commissioner said Monday.

In discussing the Department of Environmental Protection’s proposed $380.6 million budget before the Assembly Budget Committee in Trenton, Commissioner Bob Martin said he hopes the loss of the $65 million, funding for the state’s role in a regional effort to combat global warming, will only be for one year. He told the committee that DEP staff will continue to attempt to work against global warming and so-called greenhouses gasses despite the lack of money.
