Magic Rabbit Reg Goes Away

July 19, 2013
Regulations are taxes by another name. Here are the most interesting stories on federal regulation policy from the last week:

  • Department Of Energy Rule Would Increase Regulation Of Computer Use. The U.S. Department of Energy has “determined tentatively that computers qualify as a covered product under Part A of Title III of the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA), as amended.” Adding computers to that definition could increase the price of computers, depending on exactly what the department proposes.
  • Ceiling Fans Also Targeted For New Regulations. According to The Hill, two Republican House members have argued that new ceiling fan regulations issued by the Energy Department would “would make the fans more expensive and limit the number of rooms where fans can be placed.”
  • Poof! Agriculture Department Makes Magic Rabbit Regulation Disappear. According to The Hill, “After requiring a longtime magician to draft a disaster plan for his rabbit, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is now reviewing its regulations to ensure common sense applies.” We love our furry friends, but requiring a disaster plan for a bunny? Is this really the job of the federal government?
