Mystery of Alexander the Great's death solved? Ruler was 'killed by toxic wine' claim scientists

I recall a seminarian trying to tell me that Alexander was killed by syphilis. I pointed out to him that syphilis was not known in Asia, Europe or Africa until Columbus and his crew returned from the new world.
Death causes can still remain a mystery even today in many cases. A theory was brought out that Edgar Alan Poe may have possibly died from hydrophobia after being bitten by a rabid dog. He was long thought, and with good reason, to have died from affects related to alcohol. But, as with Alexander, there will most likely never be a known answer. m/r
