Newark Mayor Cory Booker’s communications director Anne Torres resigned Tuesday, following conflict over remarks the Mayor made on NBC’s Meet the Press two weekends ago. PolitickerNJ first reported the news.
Booker drew fire last week for criticizing the Obama campaign, for which he is a surrogate, saying he found the attack ads about Romney’s time at Bain Capitol “nauseating.” Booker said he felt the same way about attacks from the other side about President Barack Obama’s former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Booker later apologized for the remarks and reaffirmed his support for the president.
According to PolitickerNJ, “Sources say [Torres’] resignation comes amid internal administration strife in the aftermath of Booker’s appearance on Meet the Press.”
“Effective today, I am resigning from my position as Communications Director,” Torres said in a statement. “It has been a pleasure to serve in this Administration for six years, and as a Newarker, there is no greater reward than to work for the city that you love. I’ve had the opportunity to work with an amazing team, and wish the Mayor the best.”
