Listen to Mark Steyn in Scandinavia: “You will have to kill us all”

"Copenhagen and Lower Manhattan are two fronts in the same war"
Steyn in Scandinavia: “You will have to kill us all” « Snaphanen

I had a great time with the Danish Free Press Society on Saturday. My thanks to everyone who helped to make my trip such a pleasure, especially to Katrine and Kit, and to Eva for presenting me with the Sappho Award.

Many of those involved had heard me last week on The Dennis Miller Show joking about whether or not it was a lesbian award. The first thing the two glamorous Nordic blondes said when they met me at Copenhagen Airport was: “By the way, we are not lesbians.” Once I’d recovered from that disappointment we had a grand weekend. Here’s a report on the event, in Danish but with pictures, and some of the lingo’s easy enough to understand, such as the guest imam from the Muslim association of “wery, wery moderat extremists”. I also did a TV interview with Kurt Strand for DR’s “Deadline” (you can watch the whole show here by scrolling down to the little TV, finding the date “11″, and clicking “se program”).

As a reminder of the relationship between free speech and Islamic intimidation, a “North African-looking man” caused “a small explosion” at a Copenhagen hotel on Friday night. Not the one I was staying at. But his target was supposedly the offices of Jyllands-Posten, publishers of the Mohammed cartoons. J-P’s Niels Lillelund interviewed me over the weekend, and we’ll link to that piece when it appears.

I have a few more matters that require my attention overseas, but rest assured, we will return to full service at SteynOnline very soon. And if you couldn’t catch me in Scandinavia, in October I’ll be speaking in Boston, southern Vermont and Ottawa. Full details here.

While I’m away, check the Binksmeister at Free Canuckistan and our other friends for all the news on the Canadian free speech front. Click on the pieces below for some new-ish content. And, if you want a break from the grind of current events, dial up our podtastic audio specials for a ton of great entertainment – or prowl around the remoter corners of the site, for some favorite pieces on music, movies, people and places.

See you soon,

Mark Steyn Online
