All the emphasis seems to be on cutting. We will cut CPB, NPR, NEA.
Why aren’t we talking about growing and building and knocking down barriers? Why aren’t we talking about jobs and a boom and reforming regulation and taxes so people can build and invest?
Is cutting the absolute No. 1 priority right now? In a country that is, in Pope Francis’ famous characterization of the modern world, “a field hospital after battle”? Is that what the Republican party wants to lead with? Why isn’t the priority unleashing, getting past limits, pushing toward dynamism and expansion?

It appears that Meghan McCain has no use at all for Chelsea Clinton.

The outspoken daughter of Senator John McCain reacted in horror today to reports that the notoriously uncharismatic Chelsea may be considering a run for political office.

On Fox News' "Outnumbered" Thursday morning, Meghan noted that the rumors have been fueled by the former first daughter's increased presence on Twitter in recent months.

Clinton is seen as a possibility to run for Rep. Nita Lowey's (D-NY) House seat if the 79-year-old Democrat retires or go for the Senate if Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) runs for president in 2020.

"What fresh hell am I living in where I am going to have to sit through Chelsea Clinton running for office?" McCain cried. "What do I have to do to make the Clintons stop running for office? We don't like you!" she added forcefully.

A few days ago I had a conversation with a very smart university professor of history and somehow the climate change subject came up. Almost instantly he responded to my thoughts by saying: “You must be one of those deniers who rejects the science consensus.”

This is the new form of intellectual bullying and it’s intentionally designed is to stop the conversation not advance it. In the academies it is a technique to close off scientific inquiry.
When the liberals talk of ‎consensus, what consensus are they talking about?  Of whom? About what? Here is John Kay of the‎ Financial Times on the so-called consensus:

Science is a matter of evidence, not what a majority of scientists think…. The notion of a monolithic “science,” meaning what scientists say, is pernicious and the notion of “scientific consensus” actively so. The route to knowledge is transparency in disagreement and openness in debate. The route to truth is the pluralist expression of conflicting views in which, often not as quickly as we might like, good ideas drive out bad. There is no room in this process for any notion of “scientific consensus.”

Richard S. Lindzen, the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Science at MIT, has noted that too many environmentalists “ignore the fact that the earth and its climate are dynamic; they are always changing even without any external forcing. To treat all change as something to fear is bad enough; to do so in order to exploit that fear is much worse.”

New York Assemblyman Unveils Bill To Suppress Non-Government-Approved Free Speech

In a bill aimed at securing a "right to be forgotten," introduced by Assemblyman David I. Weprin and (as Senate Bill 4561 by state Sen. Tony Avella), liberal New York politicians would require people to remove ‘inaccurate,’ ‘irrelevant,’ ‘inadequate’ or ‘excessive’ statements about others...

• Within 30 days of a ”request from an individual,”
• “all search engines and online speakers] shall remove … content about such individual, and links or indexes to any of the same, that is ‘inaccurate’, ‘irrelevant’, ‘inadequate’ or ‘excessive,’ ”
• “and without replacing such removed … content with any disclaimer [or] takedown notice.”
• “ ‘[I]naccurate’, ‘irrelevant’, ‘inadequate’, or ‘excessive’ shall mean content,”
• “which after a significant lapse in time from its first publication,”
• “is no longer material to current public debate or discourse,”
• “especially when considered in light of the financial, reputational and/or demonstrable other harm that the information … is causing to the requester’s professional, financial, reputational or other interest,”
• “with the exception of content related to convicted felonies, legal matters relating to violence, or a matter that is of significant current public interest, and as to which the requester’s role with regard to the matter is central and substantial.”

Failure to comply would make the search engines or speakers liable for, at least, statutory damages of $250/day plus attorney fees.
As The Washington Post's Eugene Volokh rages, under this bill, newspapers, scholarly works, copies of books on Google Books and Amazon, online encyclopedias (Wikipedia and others) — all would have to be censored whenever a judge and jury found (or the author expected them to find) that the speech was “no longer material to current public debate or discourse” (except when it was “related to convicted felonies” or “legal matters relating to violence” in which the subject played a “central and substantial” role).

The White House said Thursday that President Trump didn’t know his former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, was working as a foreign agent for Turkey during the campaign last year.
“I don’t believe that was known,” said White House press secretary Sean Spicer.
But Mr. Spicer said Mr. Flynn, who was fired by the president last month for misleading top administration officials about his conversations with a Russian diplomat before the inauguration, had done nothing wrong in his lobbying work.
“This is what he did for a living. He was being compensated,” Mr. Spicer said. “He was a private citizen at the time. There’s nothing nefarious about doing anything that’s legal as long as the proper paperwork is filed.”

Mr. Flynn registered as a foreign agent with the Justice Department on Tuesday for lobbying work he did for the Turkish government during last year’s U.S. presidential campaign. He claimed $530,000 worth of work from August through November 2016 that “could be construed to have principally benefited the Republic of Turkey.”

Trump Budget Proposes Killing All Funding for PBS, NPR and National Endowment for the Arts

The fight is on as new president puts Big Bird in his crosshairs

President Donald Trump made good on a long-time conservative goal in his first proposed budget Thursday morning, targeting the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities for complete elimination.
Trump’s budget would zero out the $445 million budget for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a relatively small source of funding for programming and broadcast operations on public TV stations and NPR radio stations nationwide, per the Washington Post.

The budget would also eliminate the budgets for both national endowments, which stood at $148 million each in 2016, as well as $230 million for the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which supports libraries and museums. Additional cuts would affect two tourist mainstays in Washington, D.C., the Smithsonian Institution and the National Gallery of Art.

Next week, Donald Trump releases his new budget. It’s expected to cut spending on things like the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Good!

Government has no business funding art. When politicians decide which ideas deserve a boost, art is debased. When they use your money to shape the culture, they shape it in ways that make culture friendlier to government.

As The Federalist’s Elizabeth Harrington points out, the National Endowment for the Arts doesn’t give grants to sculpture honoring the Second Amendment or exhibitions on the benefits of traditional marriage. They fund a play about “lesbian activists who oppose gun ownership” and “art installations about climate change.”

Porn Weighs In - It Really Can Be Bad For You

Man Dies After 6-Ton Porn Collection Falls on Him

There are a lot of dangers associated with porn consumption, and now we need to add one more to the list: Your porn collection could kill you. According to a recent report at Asia Wire, a Japanese man was crushed to death when his massive collection of pornographic magazines fell on him.

The 50-year-old man's rotting corpse was discovered by his landlord, who entered his apartment to find out why the rent had not been paid for the past six months. The man, identified only by the name Joli, was found dead under a huge pile of X-rated magazines. (See pictures here.)

Details of the story come from a member of a cleaning team, who said his company was brought in to remove the magazines "discreetly" so that neighbors wouldn't notice. They apparently wanted to spare the man's family the shame of having the neighbors learn that their son was a porn hoarder.
