Heat-related incidents becoming more common
Mission- The banks of the Rio Grande are becoming a busy spot for those protecting the border. Chris Cabrera said he and other agents are dealing with an increase of illegal crossers.
Cabrera said the large group of illegal crossers that were detained on Thursday are a small piece of a bigger story.
The action along the border is heating up.
“Right now the numbers are steadily increasing,” Cabrera said.
The illegal crossers detained on Thursday were caught crossing into the U.S., near the Anzalduas International Bridge.
“Years ago, if we had group over 20 it was considered big news, he said. “Now 80, it's not, we see that a couple times a week.”
Cabrera said the groups of illegal crossers are diverse.
“We're seeing a little of everything,” he said. “We're seeing a whole list of countries. It's not just the South and Central American countries. We're starting to see the African countries and Asian countries.”
