The Irony and Lies Award - Former President George H.W. Bush honored for breaking “no new taxes” pledge

How many levels of irony are given with this "prestigious" award.

Let us start with the name of the award. It is named for the book, "Profiles in Courage," that won a Pulitzer Prize for its 'author,' John F. Kennedy. The lies start right there. "Profiles in Courage," was really written by Ted Sorensen, Kennedy's speech writer.

It was later reported that the statement "I wish that Kennedy had a little less profile and more courage" was actually made by former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.

So here is an award, named for a lie from Democrats, given to a Republican president who lied by breaking his no new taxes oath. Former President George H.W. Bush followed the advice and pressure from Democrats and the Press to unnecessarily break his oath, thus losing the presidency to the Democrat Clinton.

The stupidity of the irony is that Country Club Republicans, like Bush, McCain and Dole, take advice from Democrats and the liberal press on how to govern and campaign. Then, surprise, they lose to Democrats.

The award is a lie, ironic and appropriate. m/r

But on Sunday, former Bush aides and members of the Kennedy family came together to celebrate the former president’s willingness to buck party orthodoxy and reach across the aisle, qualities they said are sorely lacking in today’s Washington.
Bush was given the John F. Kennedy “Profile in Courage Award,” for his support of the deal that cost him politically but has been credited with laying the foundation for the surpluses that followed when President Clinton took office.
Bush’s granddaughter, Lauren Bush Lauren, accepted the award on behalf of the 89-year-old former president, in a ceremony that former White House aides described as a mild salve for the rebuke Bush was dealt in the 1992 election. …
