There was the fake story about the bust of Martin Luther King that was supposedly removed from the Oval Office. There was the New York Times’ slanted report claiming contacts of some frequency between the Donald Trump campaign and The Russians! And more recently, there was the pitiful Associated Press piece screaming about the new administration’s plans to use the National Guard to deport illegal aliens. Those are just some highlights of what the president has taken to gleefully term “fake news” as he skewers the Democrat-leaning media.
It’s not so surprising those outlets spend time on contrivances. Without The Russians! and those vaporous Trump abuses calling forth the echoes of Hitler and his brownshirts, airtime and column space might have to be devoted to other stories which would be less useful to the various narratives being concocted in New York and Washington editorial conference rooms.
One such inconvenient story is that of the Awan brothers.

  Pope Francis continues to argue for two interrelated points that, while seemingly humane, compromise Western nations and expose their citizens to danger.
He reiterated his first point earlier this month when he said, “I appeal not to create walls but to build bridges.”  Francis has made this appeal frequently, both figuratively (when imploring Western nations not to close their doors against more incoming Muslim migrants), and literally—including by characterizing Donald Trump’s proposal to build a U.S.-Mexico wall as “not Christian.”
Francis reiterated his second point a few days ago when he said, “Muslim terrorism does not exist.”  His logic is that, because there are Christians who engage in criminal and violent activities—and yet no one blames Christianity for their behavior—so too should Islam not be blamed when Muslims engage in criminal and violent activities.

The Stalinesque secrecy of the plot — developed over two years behind closed doors — has alarmed some lawmakers, who wrote to the city last week to put the plan on hold.
The private co-ops were once derelict buildings in neighborhoods like Harlem, Washington Heights and the Lower East Side that the cash-strapped city sold to residents beginning in the 1980s for as little as $250 per unit. The city was happy to off-load the headache properties, which had been abandoned by absentee landlords or seized from tax deadbeats.
They resembled urban war zones, with blown-out windows, no doors, heat or running water and junkies overdosing in the hallways.
Over the years, the homesteaders banded together to create livable apartments, and at the same time revitalized blighted neighborhoods.

Now, the city wants to seize control of what have become valuable assets, and livid residents are preparing for a legal war to stop it.

Here’s the left’s next great idea for bringing down President Trump: another women’s march. Which means another public instance of Trump haters shouting slogans to one another and mistaking it for constructive politics. What progressives need to defeat Trump is outreach, but all they have is outrage.
On March 8, organizers seem to be aiming for a different vibe than the librarians-in-pussy-hats element that made the first women’s march after Trump’s inauguration so adorable.
Instead of milling around Washington, organizers have in mind a “general strike” called the Day without a Woman. In a manifesto published in The Guardian on Feb. 6, the brains behind the movement are calling for a “new wave of militant feminist struggle.” That’s right: militant, not peaceful.

The document was co-authored by, among others, Rasmea Yousef Odeh, a convicted terrorist.

Bloomberg L.P., host of the premier afterparty for the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, will not host an event this year, Axios has learned.
Planners for events surrounding the April 29 scholarship dinner, Washington's equivalent of Oscars night, have been beset with uncertainty because of Trump administration attacks on the press. But news organizations' strong interest in tickets for the 103rd annual dinner suggests that the night will remain sold out, as always.

A Bloomberg spokesperson told us: "We surveyed some of the past attendees and didn't get as much interest in a party this year as we've had in the past, so we decided to focus on the dinner and the WHCA."

It’s the annual sculpture exhibit in downtown Lakeland and one of those sculptures is getting mixed reviews.
The leg lamp sculpture, called “I’ll Shoot Your Eye Out,” is based on the 1983 movie, “A Christmas Story,” and it certainly is raising a lot of eyebrows.
“Well, you know, for a leg, it’s not bad,” said Glenn Zweygardt, as he stood in front of the sculpture.

  As you all know by now, Trump has repeatedly accused the MSM of disseminating “fake news”, a charge that is thrown back at Trump by Leftist propaganda media outlets posing as news organizations.  For those of you who do not understand what "fake news" is, it is not just unsubstantiated or inaccurate stories that constitute fake news; it’s the biased (and very possibly coordinated) steady drum beat of characterizations, foundationless questions and the one sided selection of what is reported.  Following are some examples of MSM fake news.
1) The Russians “hacked the election”, giving the false impression that Russia was able to get into the voting machines, and designed to lead the viewer to believe that Donald Trump did not win the election fairly, legally or honestly.
2) Donald Trump is "anti-Semitic" simply because he didn't word things the way they wanted him to, and ignoring or failing to report Trump’s policy positions that constitute the most pro-Israel positions we have seen in decades, including discussions to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem and the UN Ambassador’s position to ensure that Israel will be protected at the UN. (Contrast this to Obama’s positions, which pandered to anti-Semitic Islamists and allowed unilateral targeting of Israel for scorn, while turning a blind eye to Palestinian terrorism. Yet, “anti-Semitic” was never a charge levied at Obama).

Former 2008 and 2016 Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said it’s “no big surprise” that “bitter” conservative commentator George Will is beginning to align with Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) during an interview Thursday on “The Laura Ingraham Show.”
Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas, noted that Schumer predicted Tuesday during an appearance on ABC’s “The View” that the country is “going to see a whole lot of Republicans breaking with” President Donald Trump in the next several months. Will echoed Schumer’s prediction Wednesday when the staunch NeverTrumper claimed on MSNBC’s “The Last Word” that when Republicans “realize the slippery slope they’re on, away from bedrock conservative principles, I think things will change by mid-summer.”

“Donald Trump came along and said, ‘This is crazy. Let’s put America first.'”

“The fact that George Will is lining up with Chuck Schumer is no big surprise to me,” Huckabee told LifeZette Editor-in-Chief Laura Ingraham. “Will is probably one of the most bitter people I think I’ve been around, and it’s really beginning to show in a rather unmasked way.”
Conservatives such as Will, Huckabee said, are going completely “crazy” over Trump and his actions as president because they never truly listened to the voices of the American people.

MIT’s Richard Lindzen says policies cause economic harm with ‘no environmental benefits’

More than 300 scientists have urged President Trump to withdraw from the U.N.’s climate change agency, warning that its push to curtail carbon dioxide threatens to exacerbate poverty without improving the environment.
In a Thursday letter to the president, MIT professor emeritus Richard Lindzen called on the United States and other nations to “change course on an outdated international agreement that targets minor greenhouse gases,” starting with carbon dioxide.
“Since 2009, the US and other governments have undertaken actions with respect to global climate that are not scientifically justified and that already have, and will continue to cause serious social and economic harm — with no environmental benefits,” said Mr. Lindzen, a prominent atmospheric physicist.
Signers of the attached petition include the U.S. and international atmospheric scientists, meteorologists, physicists, professors and others taking issue with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change [UNFCCC], which was formed in 1992 to combat “dangerous” climate change.

The 2016 Paris climate accord, which sets nonbinding emissions goals for nations, was drawn up under the auspices of the UNFCCC.

300 protest in Anaheim after videos show off-duty LAPD officer firing gun in dispute with teens

A day after an off-duty Los Angeles police  officer fired his gun during a confrontation with a group of teenagers in Anaheim, videos purportedly showing the encounter spread online, prompting questions about the officer’s actions. 

No one was injured by the gunfire, but the footage — posted on YouTube and Facebook  — sparked a flurry of phone calls and emails to Anaheim police, who are investigating the officer’s actions.

On Wednesday night, about 300 demonstrators took to the streets of Anaheim to protest the case. The marchers began in the west Anaheim neighborhood where the shooting occurred and eventually moved into major streets.

The Islamic State suicide bomber who carried out an attack on an Iraqi army base near Mosul this week was a former Guantanamo Bay detainee the British government compensated with £1 million following his release in 2004.

Jamal al-Harith, born Ronald Fiddler and also known by the name of Abu-Zakariya al-Britani, converted to Islam in the 1990s before U.S. officials arrested him in Pakistan in 2001 on suspicion of sympathizing with the Taliban and potentially being a “high threat to the U.S.” who was “probably involved in a former terrorist attack against the U.S.,” The Telegraph reported. When al-Harith was sent to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba in 2002, the British government under then-Prime Minister Tony Blair lobbied extensively for his release.

“So much for Tony Blair’s assurances that this extremist did not pose a security threat.”

“No-one who is returned … will actually be a threat to the security of the British people,” then-Home Secretary David Blunkett said, according to The Telegraph.

Controlling "exactly what people think" is the job of the media, MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski boldly declared Wednesday morning.
While discussing President Trump's entreaties to the American people to remain skeptical of the press, Bzezinski worried that if the economy turns south, Americans may end up trusting him over the media.
"And it could be that while unemployment and the economy worsens, he could have undermined the messaging so much that he can actually control exactly what people think," Brzezinski said. "And that, that is our job."

SCARBOROUGH: "Exactly. That is exactly what I hear. What Yamiche said is what I hear from all the Trump supporters that I talk to who were Trump voters and are still Trump supporters. They go, 'Yeah you guys are going crazy. He's doing -- what are you so surprised about? He is doing exactly what he said he is going to do.'"

BRZEZINSKI: "Well, I think that the dangerous, you know, edges here are that he is trying to undermine the media and trying to make up his own facts. And it could be that while unemployment and the economy worsens, he could have undermined the messaging so much that he can actually control exactly what people think. And that, that is our job."

The comment failed to raise any eyebrows from her co-panelists. Instead, her co-host, Joe Scarborough, said that Trump's media antagonism puts him on par with Mussolini and Lenin.

AmeriCorps sounded like a good idea. Create a program where American youth could basically earn free college by working and helping their communities. On the surface -- and if you don't understand the inherent issue with any government program -- it sounds like a great way to help people get their educations.

The program -- which never reached the level its creator Bill Clinton envisioned -- now finds itself on the chopping block along with other left-wing darlings such as the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

College officials are freaking out:

The Trump administration is circulating a list of programs to eliminate -- and it includes the Corporation for National and Community Service, the agency that finances AmeriCorps, which places young people in service positions in which they earn money for student aid or to repay student loans.

The list, revealed by The New York Times, also includes the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities, previously reported to be targets for elimination in the first Trump budget. Both the NEH and the NEA support campus programs, and their advocates in higher education are already seeking support to save the agencies.

Today, Trump White House official Sebastian Gorka is “profiled” — targeted in a scope, is more like it — in the Washington Post, which, of course, is owned by Jeff Bezos, as most people seem to know, and whose Amazon Web Services, most people don’t seem to know, has developed a $600 million computing cloud for the CIA that serves the 17 agencies making up the “intelligence community.”

I just thought I’d throw that bit of interlocking syngergy out there. By comparison, Bezos bought the whole Post for $250 million, which makes does make it a cheap rag. Naturally, its tone is cheap, too.
I mean, seriously, Post:

For years, Gorka had labored on the fringes of Washington and the far edge of acceptable debate as defined by the city’s Republican and Democratic foreign policy elite.

Sebastian Gorka is a friend of mine, just to let you know. But forget about decency, Post. Have you no sense of… irony? I will overlook the nasty-trite shot of “fringes” for the moment, but… “acceptable debate”? “Acceptable”? What is ”acceptable debate” in journalism these days? His critics, however, maintain that he is disturbingly comfortable with older men having sexual relations with teenage boys.

Yiannopoulos announced that he was quitting Breitbart during a news conference in Manhattan where he discussed his comments and his own sexual abuse as a teenager.

“Breitbart News has stood by me when others caved,” he said. “They have allowed me to carry conservative and libertarian ideas to communities that otherwise never have heard them.”

“I would be wrong to allow my poor choice of words to detract from my colleagues’ important reporting, so today I am resigning from Breitbart, effective immediately,” he said.

He said that his book "Dangerous" "has received interest" from other publishing houses after being dropped by Simon and Schuster.

Thousands of immigrants working in the restaurant, hotel, child care, and construction industries across the United States stayed home from work and school Thursday to demonstrate how important they are to America's economy.

Some employers, it turns out, decided to demonstrate to these employees that they are not so important to their businesses that they can get away with skipping work.

World Trade Center bomber ‘Blind Sheikh’ dies in prison

Omar Abdel-Rahman, the fiery blind cleric who masterminded the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, died Saturday in a North Carolina federal prison hospital where he was serving a life sentence for plotting terror.
The 78-year-old Islamist militant’s death was announced by his son and daughter in his native Egypt, and confirmed by spokesman Greg Norton at the Butner federal prison complex.
The sheik, who suffered from coronary heart disease and diabetes, died of natural causes, said Norton.
Known as “the Blind Sheik,” Abdel-Rahman was born to a merchant in a village in the Nile delta.
Diabetes had rendered him blind from infancy.

He was convicted in 1996 of planning “a war of urban terrorism,” targeting city landmarks including the Holland and Lincoln tunnels, the United Nations, the George Washington Bridge and FBI headquarters in Manhattan.

“No people is criminal or drug-trafficking or violent,” Francis said, while also suggesting—as he has on other occasions—that terrorism is primarily a result of economic inequalities rather than religious beliefs. “The poor and the poorer peoples are accused of violence yet, without equal opportunities, the different forms of aggression and conflict will find a fertile terrain for growth and will eventually explode.”

For those who are not aware of the term "deep state," it refers to the secret services in a dictatorship who overthrow governments, manipulate the press, and otherwise eliminate opponents. I first heard the term in reference to Turkey, whose military and intelligence services overthrew governments they didn't like with depressing regularity during the postwar period. To speak of a "deep state" in an American context is to say that the United States is turning into a banana republic.

This is no joking matter. I am confident that President Trump and the tough guys in his cabinet will root out the saboteurs, leakers, manipulators, and liars who infest the intelligence services and who conspire with the liberal media to invent fake-news charges against a duly elected administration. But the danger is real, and the fact that the intelligence community is playing games with domestic politics is a danger to our liberties. ...

CERN, the world’s top particle physics laboratory, just found that our big, abrupt climate changes are produced by variations in the sun’s activity.

49% of voters believe that Trump and his people are telling the truth. Only 39% believe that the media is.
The media’s war on President Trump isn’t hurting him. It is destroying the media’s own credibility.
After Trump’s win, the media came to the conclusion that its biased attacks on him had been too subtle and understated to connect with the “dumb” voters. So it decided to be far more overt about its smears.
The New York Times, which used to be the best at disguising its biases in the omnipotent voice of professional journalism, called President Trump a liar in its headlines.  The media cheered this descent into naked partisanship by the paper of record. But it didn’t hurt Trump. It hurt the Times.
Headlines blasting President Trump as a “liar” are easy enough to find on the internet.

Rhodes’ assistant Ned Price laughingly added that he fed the manufactured narrative to the media, “and the next thing I know, lots of these guys are in the dot-com publishing space, and have huge Twitter followings, and they’ll be putting this message out on their own.”
In February 2013, Fox News Chief Washington Correspondent James Rosen, the same Rosen who had been singled out for NSA surveillance, wasn’t drinking the Kool-Aid.

Yet many of these same news organizations have likened Trump to the Taliban and Adolf Hitler, floated false rumors about his use of a Russian prostitute, and accused his administration of being pro-slavery.
After Trump avoided calling on MSNBC during today's presser with Benjamin Netanyahu, MSNBC’s Peter Alexander complained that the conservative journalists he did call on didn’t ask “real questions” like he would have.
“What was striking," Alexander said, was that "President Trump, again, called on a series of more conservative leaning news organizations which didn’t allow for any real questions, trying to zero in on this issue of Mike Flynn, the now former national security advisor."
We can't speak for Trump, but one reason he may not be in a rush to give MSNBC more airtime is that they seem intent on using it to liken him to Adolf Hitler.

The Republican plan to overhaul the tax system includes getting rid of the income tax, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) announced on Fox Business Tuesday morning.

"We're trying to fundamentally change the code," Nunes told host Stuart Varney. "We're getting rid of the income tax. We're doing something that hasn't been done in 100 years."

"We're moving to a consumption system -- to a cash flow system," Nunes said. He explained what that would look like in practice: "You take your income minus your expenses, and whatever's left over, you pay a tax on that."

He added that "this is a very simple system, yet it's a dramatic departure from the confusing tax code that we have now."

Nunes argued that the changes would increase economic growth and bring jobs back to America so we can be "the most transparent, business-friendly nation state in the world."

Already, protests against repeal are disrupting town halls and making headlines. But the nation won’t be fooled by demonstrators carrying signs. The silent majority — mostly working people — have been clobbered by the health law. They won’t be taking to the streets. They made their views known on Election Day.

Schumer and Sanders talk nonstop about the 20 million covered by the health-care reform law (who will likely be covered by a GOP replacement as well). Democrats ignore the 156 million people with on-the-job coverage who are paying higher deductibles and taking home less pay because of ObamaCare. That’s half the nation.

Jacob Bernstein, the son of Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein and the late writer-director Nora Ephron, came forward on Tuesday to identify himself as the journalist who repeated what he called “unfounded rumors” about the first lady in a conversation with model-actress Emily Ratajkowski.
“Speaking at a party in what I thought was a personal conversation, I nevertheless made a stupid remark about the first lady,” he wrote in a series of tweets. “My editors have made it clear my behavior was not in keeping with the standards of the Times, and I agree.”

7th Circuit judges uphold deportation order for resident alien who illegally registered to vote

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Monday that Margarita Del Pilar Fitzpatrick, a resident alien who registered to vote illegally, can be deported for the act despite her claim that she did so at the direction of a DMV employee.

Fitzpatrick arrived in the country in 2002 and is married to a U.S. citizen. Fitzpatrick applied for an Illinois driver’s licence a few years after arriving in the country, court records show. During the process, the DMV clerk asked Fitzpatrick if she wished to register to vote, telling her “it’s up to you.”

“This case demonstrates just how weak our voter registration system is with respect to preventing illegal activity up front.”

In her appeal, Fitzpatrick’s lawyer, Richard Hanus, argued that the DMV employee’s direction constituted “official approval,” and that Fitzpatrick should therefore not be held responsible for her actions. Of course, it doesn’t take a law degree to know the “I was just following orders” defense does not routinely absolve culpability in a crime.
