Those who have seen the end result of a disarmed population can give us a better understanding of the right to keep and bear arms. The Guinness book of world records shows the largest mass killings in the history of mankind to have happened in China, under Mao, with a total of 66 million people.

Under Stalin the mass killings totaled 20 million people.
Everyone knows about Hitler, but he is low on the list with 6 million.

What did all of those millions of people have in common?
THEY WERE ALL UNARMED.
What did the victims at Newtown, CT have in common with all of those millions of people?
THEY WERE ALL UNARMED.

The ATF seems to study from the work manual of the Keystone Kops. Here is definitely a place where control or outright disbanding should be implemented. This dubious agency duplicates jurisdictions and seeks high profile publicity, while at the same time it chronically botches jobs like this one.  Here, fortunately, only time and funds were wasted, machine guns went missing and a landlord got holding the bag. At least no one has been killed yet as happened with "Waco" and "Fast and Furious." m/r

Manti Te’o, meet Margaret Mead
1-30-13
Exclusive: Jack Cashill compares girlfriend hoax to Samoan 'sexual paradise' ruse

In the last few weeks, the media have scrutinized Notre Dame All-American linebacker Manti Te’o's imaginary girlfriends more thoroughly than they have the very real terrorists who killed four Americans in Benghazi.

To those who care, the question that remains is whether Te’o conspired to fabricate his seemingly tragic relationship with imaginary girlfriend Lennay Kekua or whether he is a victim of a cruel hoax.

If he has been hoaxed, Te’o will not be the first victim of traditional Polynesian trickery, nor the most consequential. That latter honor belongs to culture-changing anthropologist Margaret Mead.

“What we do know is that in every Polynesian community there is the waha nui,” wrote Hawaiian historian Herb Kawainui Kāne to a mutual friend in an email, “the self-appointed spokesman and tale teller, who has a talent for anticipating what a visitor wants to hear and can invent a story on the spot.”

Unfortunately, Herb Kawainui Kāne is no longer around to shed light on the Te’o case. The celebrated author died two years ago at 82.

But he had a good deal to say about Mead, the “youth with romantic ideas” who “found the information she was looking for in Samoa.” The reason she found it? Teenage girls “had invented tales to suit their visitor.”

In the fall of 1922, Mead took a course from Franz Boas, her mentor at Columbia University and the godfather of modern anthropology. Boas taught that “social conditioning” was responsible for the complete molding of the individual, and Mead believed what Boas preached. ...

This is what that Meddlesome, Weenie Bloomberg should be focused on: New York's Sandy Scorecard

Instead, Nanny Bloomberg is insinuating himself into every minor personal aspect of  everyones lives. He should be working on restructuring the inept bureaucracies and flood control problems in the coastal areas of NYC. But Noooooo! m/r

New York's Sandy Scorecard by Nicole Gelinas, City Journal WInter 2013

What worked, what didn’t, and what the city should do when future storms threaten
WInter 2013
The storm that tore up New York’s coastlines on Monday, October 29, was no longer a hurricane when it hit land, but a weaker post-tropical cyclone. Nor did Superstorm Sandy, as it came to be called, directly hit the city; it made landfall more than 100 miles south, near Atlantic City, New Jersey. Sandy “wasn’t the big one,” says Nicholas K. Coch, a professor of sedimentology and coastal geology at Queens College.
But it was big enough. As New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg pointed out, Sandy “coincided with a full moon and a high tide, and it collided with a second weather front that made it take a hard left turn.” That turn positioned Sandy just south of New York, so that its counterclockwise winds “drove the water right towards New York City.” Sandy killed 43 city residents, caused tens of billions of dollars’ worth of damage, and will probably reduce New York’s gross city product (a local version of GDP) by nearly a percentage point. For months after the storm, parts of lower Manhattan, the Rockaways in Queens, Coney Island in Brooklyn, and Staten Island have remained disaster areas.
Nearly a month after Sandy hit, New York governor Andrew Cuomo created three blue-ribbon commissions to analyze the state’s response and recommend long-term investments for future “major weather events.” Bloomberg, for his part, said in early December that city officials would develop a “specific and comprehensive action plan” to confront storms in the future. The conclusion that all these groups should draw is now evident: the institutions that worked well before Sandy worked well afterward; those that didn’t failed the test. And the biggest challenges, as New York works to protect itself from major storms, will be political and fiscal, not technical. For all Cuomo’s musing about how “it’s going to be a rethinking, redesign of how we protect this metropolitan area,” what really needs rethinking is the state and local politics that have created dysfunctional agencies and funded them nonsensically.

We Shoot Skeet All the Time (Or is it Sheet?)

Skeet or Sheet? m/r

Barack Obama in the line of fire as sceptics target his shooting claims - Telegraph By Peter Foster, Washington 29 Jan 2013

Obama's claims that he goes "skeet shooting all the time" have been met with a mixture of quiet mirth and outright disbelief as the gun debate continues.

Shooting the "Skeet"
Barack Obama has a well-documented history of shooting, but until now his target list has been confined to election night "hoops" with his basketball buddies, the odd frame of eight-ball pool, and a record number of rounds of golf at Andrews Air Force base.
When Mr Obama added clay-pigeon shooting to that list in a bid to reassure American gun owners he would not interfere with their hunting, however, there were those who wondered if the President might be trying just a little too hard.
"Up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time," Mr Obama breezed to The New Republic magazine, adding he had "a profound respect for the traditions of hunting".

The Biggest Little Weenie Anti-Freedom Fighter

Weenie Hypocrite Mayor of NY City,
Michael Bloomberg
Time Magazine has been a joke for years. From it's old "inverted grammatical style," to its chronic inversion of facts, of which it is most guilty today. It, along with its old Liberal editorial twin Newsweek and media mate CNN, now have anemic circulation due to their overt lefty bias and questionable reporting.
Now they have Lionized the small in mind and stature, big hypocrite Mayor of NY City, Michael Bloomberg. Bloomberg takes on the giant issues like, salt, soft drink cup sizes, cigarettes, Islamophobia and as always, guns. He has a full detachment of armed NYC Police Security protecting them, while this little hypocrite bastard demands that Americans should disarm! This is from the Mayor who inherited a transformed and well run city from Rudi Giuliani, but who can't personally deal with snow clearance from Bermuda and disaster affects from Hurricane Sandy.
Time Magazine seems to be the fitting place to ironically caricature the mayoral marionette Bloomberg on their cover as a "freedomfighter" as he restricts the freedoms of NY individuals, one weenie issue at a time. m/r

The Wages of the Community Pimpanizer - A Pimp for Obamacare Feels the Pain

Government-run health care is — by its nature — dishonest, coercive, and corrupt. Now you, along with those of us to whom you refused to listen, are stuck with it.

The American Spectator : A Pimp for Obamacare Feels the Pain

Next time, be more careful what you wish for.
When I began writing about the menace of increased federal involvement in our medical delivery system, I was surprised to discover that some doctors actually supported it. These misguided medicos represented only a small minority of practicing physicians, and most were profoundly ignorant about health care economics, but the “M.D.” following their names provided them with a façade of credibility. A number of these people took advantage of their illusory expertise in health care policy to launch blogs which they used to promote their notions of “health reform” and extol the virtues of government-run health care in general.
Among them was an ER physician who writes under the nom de plume “Shadowfax.” This particular “docblogger” stands out in my memory because he was peculiarly uninformed about the nuances of the issue and yet utterly dismissive of anyone, including other physicians, who attempted to make him understand that he would one day regret advocating an increased government role in medicine. I occasionally crossed swords with him myself, but it was an exercise in futility. Like most soi disant progressives, this self-satisfied sawbones couldn’t imagine that he might be on the wrong side of this or any other issue.
This unshakable belief in his own infallibility regarding government-administered health care was partly due to his hopelessly naïve view of Medicare, which he called “the most successful government program ever.” Never mind that this “success” had produced a $38 trillion unfunded liability, it was somehow “more efficient than private insurance.” Imagine my surprise, then, when I looked at the byline for this scathing piece bemoaning the depredations of that very program. The outraged author of “Medicare made the rules and now punishes doctors for following them” is none other than the redoubtable Shadowfax.
I haven’t read his blog for a while, but it would appear that the virtues of government-run health care have begun to pall for the good doctor. He has finally discovered what I and others told him years ago: Medicare rules are, as he apparently now realizes, “arbitrary and disconnected from reality.” He has also noticed that, when a physician runs afoul of these bureaucratic vagaries, the government is the judge, jury, and executioner. The immediate cause of his disillusionment is Medicare’s trick of performing a superficial audit of a doctor’s billing practices and, based on a hopelessly flawed statistical sampling method, accuses him of fraud.

January 24, 2013  - full short post

Chase Power, the parent company behind the $3 billion Las Brisas coal power plant in Corpus Christi, Texas, announced yesterday that it was cancelling the project.
“Chase Power … has opted to suspend efforts to further permit the facility and is seeking alternative investors as part of a plan of dissolution for the parent company,” Chase CEO Dave Freysinger told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.
Freysinger made it very clear who was responsible for the projects death. “The (Las Brisas Energy Center) is a victim of EPA’s concerted effort to stifle solid-fuel energy facilities in the U.S., including EPA’s carbon-permitting requirements and EPA’s New Source Performance Standards for new power plants,” he said.
The Las Brisas power plant had been part of a larger Las Brisas Energy Center project planned for Corpus Christi’s Inner Harbor. Economists had projected that in the first 5 years of construction and operation the project would create as 1,300 direct and 2,600 indirect jobs. Now none of those jobs will exist.
“These costly rules exceeded the bounds of EPA authority, incur tremendous costs, and produce no real benefits related to climate change,” Freysinger commented.

Typical Liberal BS and Hypocrisy: Illegal weapons used to protect Media Matters' David Brock

Illegal weapons used to protect Media Matters' David Brock | The Daily Caller
Vince Coglianese 1-28-13

A staffer at left-wing Media Matters for America committed numerous felonies in the District of Columbia and around the country by carrying a firearm to defend the organization’s founder, David Brock, The Daily Caller has learned.
According to a knowledgeable source, multiple firearms used to protect the Media Matters founder were purchased with Brock’s blessing — and apparently with the group’s money.
TheDC has previously reported that Brock’s one-time aide, Haydn Price-Morris, carried a concealed Glock handgun as he traveled with the liberal leader to public events in Washington, D.C.  ...
... Brock, whose struggles with mental health have seen him hospitalized in the past, became increasingly concerned by late 2010 that he was being targeted by right-wing assassins. ...
On at least one occasion, Brock — accompanied by his armed aide — visited California to attend a “Democracy Alliance” summit of major Democratic donors and lawmakers.
That gathering included such major figures in Democratic politics as billionaires George Soros, Peter Lewis and Bill Benter, former Service Employees International Union Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger, and the politician behind the federal government’s 1994 “Assault Weapons Ban,” California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

“CBS Runs Segment Called ‘Let’s Give Up On The Constitution,’” Big Journalism reports today (warning, link goes to auto-play Charles Osgood video). They’re simply the latest branch of the Obama-media to drop the mask in recent years. “Let’s Give Up on the Constitution,” blared a headline in the New York Times on December 30th, atop a column written by Louis Seidman, the same man featured in CBS’s segment today, who professes to “teach” Constitutional Law at Georgetown University.
Ten days later, Time-Warner-CNN-HBO spokesman Morton Downey Morgan Jr. sneeringly described the Constitution as “your little book,” when handed a copy by guest Ben Shapiro.
Back in January of 2011, when the GOP took back control of the House, the New York Times ran an earlier assault on the Constitution, leading Power Line’s John Hinderaker to ask, “Are Liberals Coming Out of the Closet on the Constitution?”
That was around the same time the Washington’s Post’s Young Ezra Klein admitted on MSNBC that in his opinion, because the Constitution was written “more than 100 years ago,” it was all so confusing to understand.
On July 4th 2011, the cover of Time magazine featured a shredded Constitution and a headline that asked, “Does It Still Matter?”
Not to the Left, it doesn’t — and increasingly, they’re not at all afraid to admit it.

Stephen King's Horror of His Own Hypocrisy

Stephen King: NRA Should 'Clean Up Blood, Brains and Chunks of Intestine' After Next Massacre | NewsBusters
by Noel Sheppard | January 26, 2013

"One only wishes Wayne LaPierre and his NRA board of directors could be drafted to some of these [violent] scenes, where they would be required to put on booties and rubber gloves and help clean up the blood, the brains, and the chunks of intestine still containing the poor wads of half-digested food that were some innocent bystander’s last meal."
So wrote horror writer Stephen King in a Kindle essay Friday entitled "Guns."
"[P]lenty of gun advocates cling to their semi-automatics the way Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson clung to the shit that was killing them," King wrote in his 25-page essay.
Not surprisingly, there was a lot of hypocrisy in King's piece noting "to claim that America’s 'culture of violence' is responsible for school shootings is tantamount to cigarette company executives declaring that environmental pollution is the chief cause of cancer."

Do Government-Run Companies Work?
by BURT Folsom on JANUARY 24, 2013

What examples from U.S. history support the transfer of funds and power from private to government control? In other words, do we have historical precedents for successful government subsidies to private companies? Also, do businesses owned by the federal government perform well?
Let’s review some historical examples. President George Washington experimented with government control when he supported passage of a law to set up a federally funded fur company for the Northwest Territory. President Washington thought this government-run company would help to prevent the British from encroaching on U.S. land, because agents of the British-owned Hudson Bay Company bought furs from the Indians in the Northwest.
Unfortunately, Indians and trappers alike despised the inefficient American company, but John Jacob Astor became a part of the solution. As a new resident of the United States, Astor founded his own private company and successfully bought furs from the Indians, making a fortune in the process. Under President Monroe, the U.S. finally disbanded the nearly bankrupt government company, sold its assets, and allowed the more competent private U.S. companies to do all the nation’s fur trading.

What Difference Does It Make?

The Unsanitary Bitch! m/r

Cartoon Of The Day: What Difference Does It Make? » Common Sense Evaluation

No Trace of Reality "What difference does it make?”

The whole event had the air of a simulacrum: It looked like a presidential inauguration, but the sound was tinny and not quite in sync.

The Obama Simulacrum - Mark Steyn - National Review Online

This administration sneers at reality and its consequences.
Jan. 25, 2013  Mark Steyn

If I’m following this correctly, according to one spokesperson for the Marine Corps Band, at Monday’s inauguration Beyoncé lip-synced to the national anthem but the band accompanied her live. However, according to a second spokesperson, it was the band who were pretending to play to a pre-recorded tape while Beyoncé sang along live. So one or other of them were faking it. Or maybe both were. Or neither. I’d ask Chuck Schumer, the master of ceremonies, who was standing right behind her, but he spent the entire performance staring at her butt. If it was her butt, that is. It might just have been the bulge of the Radio Shack cassette player she was miming to. In an America with an ever more tenuous grip on reality, there’s so little to be sure of.
Whether Beyoncé was lip-syncing to the band or the band were lip-syncing to Beyoncé is like one of those red pill/ blue pill choices from The Matrix. Was President Obama lip-syncing to the Founders, rooting his inaugural address in the earliest expressions of American identity? (“The patriots of 1776 . . . gave to us a republic, a government of, and by, and for the people, entrusting each generation to keep safe our founding creed.”) Or maybe the Founders were lip-syncing to him as he appropriated the vision of the first generation of Americans and yoked it (“preserving our individual freedoms ultimately requires collective action”) to a statist pitch they would have found utterly repugnant.
The whole event had the air of a simulacrum: It looked like a presidential inauguration, but the sound was tinny and not quite in sync. Obama mouthed along to a canned vocal track: “We reject the belief that America must choose between caring for the generation that built this country and investing in the generation that will build its future.” That’s great! It’s always reassuring to know the head of state is going to take issue with all those people wedded to the “belief” that America needs either to shove every granny off the cliff or stake its newborns out on the tundra for the wolves to finish off. When it comes to facing the music, Obama is peerless at making a song and dance about tunes nobody’s whistling without ever once warbling the real big numbers (16 trillion). But, like Beyoncé, he’s totally cool and has a cute butt.
A couple of days later, it fell to the 45th president-in-waiting to encapsulate the ethos of the age in one deft sound bite: What difference does it make? Hillary Clinton’s instantly famous riposte at the Benghazi hearings is such a perfect distillation that it surely deserves to be the national motto of the United States. They should put it on Paul Krugman’s trillion-dollar coin, and in the presidential oath:
“Do you solemnly swear to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States?”
“Sure. What difference, at this point, does it make?”

Dictator actions of Obama get slapped down. Court says Obama appointments violate constitution

My Way News - Court says Obama appointments violate constitution
Jan 25, 2013 (AP still doesn't know what year it is)
By SAM HANANEL

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama violated the Constitution when he bypassed the Senate last year to appoint three members of the National Labor Relations Board, a federal appeals court ruled Friday in a far-reaching decision that could severely limit a chief executive's powers to make recess appointments.
The decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit marked a victory for Republicans and business groups critical of the labor board. If it stands, it could invalidate hundreds of board decisions over the past year, including some that make it easier for unions to organize.
When Obama filled the vacancies on Jan. 4, 2012, Congress was on an extended holiday break. But GOP lawmakers gaveled in for a few minutes every three days just to prevent Obama from making recess appointments. The White House argued that the pro forma sessions - some lasting less than a minute - were a sham.
The court rejected that argument, but went even further, finding that under the Constitution, a recess occurs only during the breaks between formal year-long sessions of Congress, not just any informal break when lawmakers leave town. It also held that presidents can bypass the Senate only when administration vacancies occur during a recess. ...

Attorney General Eric Holder on Friday released three proposals to strengthen the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which was one of the 23 actions ordered by Obama last week to tackle gun violence.
The proposed regulations would give local law-enforcement agencies access to the gun-sale database that is maintained by the FBI. The rules would also preserve records of denied weapons sales indefinitely. ...

David Mamet: Gun Laws and the Fools of Chelm

Speaking of Newsweek, a view from the right side of the issue, this time! It is nice to have the gifted writer, David Mamet, on the right now. m/r

David Mamet: Gun Laws and the Fools of Chelm - Newsweek and The Daily Beast
Jan 29, 2013 issue
Karl Marx summed up Communism as “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.” This is a good, pithy saying, which, in practice, has succeeded in bringing, upon those under its sway, misery, poverty, rape, torture, slavery, and death.

For the saying implies but does not name the effective agency of its supposed utopia. The agency is called “The State,” and the motto, fleshed out, for the benefit of the easily confused must read “The State will take from each according to his ability: the State will give to each according to his needs.” “Needs and abilities” are, of course, subjective. So the operative statement may be reduced to “the State shall take, the State shall give.”
All of us have had dealings with the State, and have found, to our chagrin, or, indeed, terror, that we were not dealing with well-meaning public servants or even with ideologues but with overworked, harried bureaucrats. These, as all bureaucrats, obtain and hold their jobs by complying with directions and suppressing the desire to employ initiative, compassion, or indeed, common sense. They are paid to follow orders.
Rule by bureaucrats and functionaries is an example of the first part of the Marxist equation: that the Government shall determine the individual’s abilities.

But you can probably guess the correct answer from the manner in which I have posed the question.
We all know that the sheet anchor of our liberties is the Declaration of Independence. The president himself quoted Thomas Jefferson’s most famous line in his inaugural address earlier this week. He recognized that all men and women are created equal and endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights and that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The president would no doubt like to modify the word “created” to read “shall be maintained,” since his presidency seems dedicated to keeping us equal, not in terms of equality of rights and opportunity but of outcome. He has dedicated himself to using the coercive power of the federal government to take from those who have and give to those who don’t. Under the Constitution, charity is a decision for individuals to make, not the government.
This forced egalitarianism was never the purpose of government in America. ...

Don't ask Hillary! It Doesn't Matter to Her. Benghazi: Before, During, and After

What Really Happened in Benghazi: Before, During, and After

By Discover The Networks On January 24, 2013 @ 12:41 am In Daily Mailer,FrontPage | 27 Comments
Yesterday Hillary Clinton testified before a Congressional Committee regarding the deadly September 11, 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya. To better help Americans determine to what extent Mrs. Clinton’s testimony is truthful, DiscoverTheNetworks.org has compiled a comprehensive report and timeline that lays out all the most significant events that occurred before, during, and after September 11.
In this report, you learn that in March 2011, American diplomat Christopher Stevens was stationed in Benghazi as the American liaison to Libya’s “opposition” rebels — among whom were many al Qaeda-affiliated jihadists – who were fighting to topple the longstanding regime of President Muammar Qaddafi. In short, the Obama administration elected to support individuals and groups that were allied ideologically and tactically with al Qaeda.
Following Qaddafi’s fall from power in the summer of 2011, Ambassador Stevens was tasked with finding and securing the vast caches of powerful armaments which the Libyan dictator had amassed during his long reign. In turn, Stevens helped facilitate the transfer of these arms to the “opposition” rebels in Syria who were trying to topple yet another Arab dictator—Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. As in Libya, the rebels in Syria were likewise known to include al Qaeda and other Shariah-supremacist groups. In addition to facilitating arms transfers, Stevens’ duties also included the recruitment of Islamic jihadists from Libya and elsewhere in North Africa who were willing to personally go into combat against the Assad regime in Syria. The U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi served as a headquarters from which all the aforementioned activities could be coordinated with officials and diplomats from such countries as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
As 2012 progressed, violent jihadist activity became increasingly commonplace in Benghazi. At or near the U.S. mission, for instance, there were many acts of terrorism featuring the use of guns, improvised explosive devices, hand grenades, rocket-propelled grenades, and car-bombs, to say nothing of the explicit threats against Americans issued by known terrorists like al Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri. As a result of such developments, Ambassador Stevens and others at the U.S. mission repeatedly asked the Obama administration for increased security provisions during 2012, but these requests were invariably denied or ignored.
Then, on the night of September 11, 2012, the U.S. mission in Benghazi was attacked by a large group of heavily armed terrorists who, over the course of seven hours, murdered four Americans and laid waste to the U.S. mission.

The Double Cross Lobby! Feinstein Opens Gun Control Presser with Prayer by Clergyman

You all better hope your congregation is packing, otherwise you are a de facto gun free zone. That makes you easy, unprotected prey (no pun).
If that dullard Rep. McCarthy's husband had been on a train where the riders were allowed to pack heat, that racist murderer, Colin Ferguson, wouldn't have considered mass killing on the LIRR. But McCarthy, Feinstein and all the gun - and citizen control lobby wants more of the same for all of us! m/r

Feinstein Opens Gun Control Presser with Prayer by Clergyman | The Weekly Standard

'The gun lobby is not match for the cross lobby."

11:28 AM, JAN 24, 2013 • BY MICHAEL WARREN

The Very Rev. Gary Hall, dean of the National Cathedral in Washington, said Thursday morning that "people of faith" should come together to fight for gun control against the "gun lobby." In his opening remarks at a press conference on gun control organized by California Democrat Dianne Feinstein, Hall spoke about the influence of the so-called gun lobby in Washington. "Now, everyone in this city seems to live in terror of the gun lobby," Hall said. "But I believe the gun lobby is no match for the cross lobby." Watch the video at the link-

The press conference, which includes law enforcement officers and victims of gun violence, was organized to collect support for a new assault weapons ban, championed by Senator Feinstein. Feinstein also put on display 10 of the firearms that would be banned by the feds under her proposal.

Here was manslaughter of four Americans who were killed by negligence! Just as when someone is killed by a drunk driver, this administration was drunk with its own power and narrative for its "Arab Spring" and the revolt in Libya. The al-Qaeda terror attack didn't fit their narrative, especially near election time, so they ignored it, then stalled, then flat out lied and are still lying. The press has been willing accomplices after the fact to this crime! m/r

In Character, Media Give Michelle a Pass for Expensive and Off-the-Rack Looking Menswear Designer Duds

Media Give Michelle a Pass for Designer Duds - Katrina Trinko - National Review Online

When Ann Romney wore a designer T-shirt for a TV interview in May, the media made sure to highlight the price.
“Ann Romney’s $990 T-shirt Is Indicative of a Tone-Deaf Campaign,” blared a Washington Post web headline. “Designer of Ann Romney’s $1K Shirt Says It’s Off the Rack,” reported ABC News. “Ann Romney’s $990 shirt — Worth It?” asked Politico. In June, the media were still buzzing over the shirt. “Her look was rarely more of-the-moment than on CBS This Morning last month, when Mrs. Romney wore a $990 Reed Krakoff blouse emblazoned with an exotic bird that winged its way toward her right breast,” wrote the New York Times. “That turnout provoked criticism, with viewers chiding Mrs. Romney as insensitive to the economic struggles of ordinary Americans and, for that matter, to the prickly issue of her husband’s personal wealth.”
In contrast, Michelle Obama’s designer duds for the inauguration have drawn little speculation over their price. (Some of the pieces were custom-made, so it’s impossible to know exactly how much they cost.) Google “Michelle Obama inauguration outfit price” and the most relevant result is from Enstarz — a tabloid-looking website I’ve never encountered before — which estimates one outfit worn by the first lady was about $10,000. No one else in the media, it seems, is curious about how much Mrs. Obama spent.
But while the exact price of her garments isn’t known, there’s no doubt that some of the designers the first lady chose are hardly ones that most middle-class Americans can afford.
Take the coat and dress Michelle Obama wore, which were designed just for her by Thom Browne. Browne is better known for his menswear — and it doesn’t come cheap. A pair of his jacquard shorts costs $830, while a polo shirt with a whale print is $1,880. If a garishly bright-colored plaid sports coat is your thing, you can get one for a mere $2,500.

Corrupt Mexican at Davos calls for $14trn 'greening' of global economy

It is a recipe for sustained economic depression and socialist wealth transfers demanded by corrupt politicians based on nothing more than political zealotry verging on religious fanaticism.
The greatest contributor to global warming is the hot air gas emanating from Calderon and his corrupt compatriots at these expensive, exclusive, phony "save the world" junkets. m/r

Davos call for $14trn 'greening' of global economy - Business News - Business - The Independent
from Tom Dawden 1-22-13

An unprecedented $14trn (£8.8trn) greening of the global economy is the only way to ensure long-term sustainable growth, according to a stark warning delivered to political and business leaders as they descended on the World Economic Forum in Davos yesterday.
Only a sustained and dramatic shift to infrastructure and industrial practices using low-carbon technology can save the world and its economy from devastating global warming, according to a Davos-commissioned alliance led by the former Mexican President, Felipe Calderon, in the most dramatic call so far to fight climate change on business grounds.
This includes everything from power generation, transport, and buildings to industry, forestry, water and agriculture, according to the Green Growth Action Alliance, created at last year's Davos meeting in Mexico.
The extra spending amounts to roughly $700bn a year until 2030 and would provide a much-needed economic stimulus as well as reduce the costs associated with global warming further down the line, said Mr Calderon, who leads the alliance.

"Neville" Obama: 'Peace in Our Time'

Obama: 'Peace in Our Time'

 22 Jan 2013

It was either an embarrassing slip, or a frightening revelation of the president’s true worldview. Either way, the words “peace in our time,” made infamous by British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain as he promised an illusory peace with Adolf Hitler in 1938, should never have been in President Barack Obama’s second inaugural address.  ...

The phrase appeared in a passage on foreign policy, in which [Obama] pledged to defend the nation while resolving differences peacefully [emphasis added]:
And we must be a source of hope to the poor, the sick, the marginalized, the victims of prejudice--not out of mere charity, but because peace in our time requires the constant advance of those principles that our common creed describes: tolerance and opportunity; human dignity and justice.
