Federal Money Monkey Business! Discredited-The Fed’s policy is quantitatively accelerating American collapse.

The Fed’s policy is quantitatively accelerating American collapse.

Oh, wait. I suppose I ought to explain who Paul O’Neill is. A decade ago, he was President Bush’s first Treasury secretary. I have no very clear memory of him except that he toured Africa with Bono and they were photographed in matching tribal dress looking like Colonel Qaddafi’s Mini-Me twins at a Tripoli sleepover. Other than the dress-up fun, I’ve no idea why they were in Africa, but you paid for it, so I’m sure there was a good reason.

Anyway, Secretary O’Neill popped up the other day on Bloomberg Television to compare debt-ceiling holdouts to jihadists. “The people who are threatening not to pass the debt ceiling,” he said, “are our version of al-Qaeda terrorists. Really.”

What do you expect from the openly Totalitarian Administration! Obama Administration punishes reporter for using multimedia

This comes in the wake of Donald Trump's forcing the release of the Obama birth certificate. Trump has the temerity to ask the questions that most ask themselves (but are afraid to ask openly for fear of the usual racism charges like the ones that hit Trump) about Obama's actual intellectual capacity to govern by way of his hiding his college transcripts.

Obama Administration punishes reporter for using multimedia : Bronstein at Large

The hip, transparent and social media-loving Obama administration is showing its analog roots. And maybe even some hypocrisy highlights.

White House officials have banished one of the best political reporters in the country from the approved pool of journalists covering presidential visits to the Bay Area for using now-standard multimedia tools to gather the news.

The Chronicle's Carla Marinucci - who, like many contemporary reporters, has a phone with video capabilities on her at all times - pulled out a small video camera last week and shot some protesters interrupting an Obama fundraiser at the St. Regis Hotel.

She was part of a "print pool" - a limited number of journalists at an event who represent their bigger hoard colleagues - which White House press officials still refer to quaintly as "pen and pad" reporting.

But that's a pretty Flintstones concept of journalism for an administration that presents itself as the Jetsons. Video is every bit a part of any journalist's tool kit these days as a functioning pen that doesn't leak through your pocket.

........Here is the most telling part. It exposes the bias and arrogance of the sycophantic big media journalists for this lame administration. Actual honest reporting and press freedom our part of their toolkit.
.....

Some White House reporters are grumbling almost as much as the Administration about Carla's "breaking the rules." I can understand how they'd be irritated. If you didn't get the video because you understood you weren't supposed to, why should someone else get it who isn't following the longstanding civilized table manners?

The White House Press Correspondents' Association pool reporting guidelines warn about "no hoarding" of information and also say, "pool reports must be filed before any online story or blog." While uploading her video probably was the best way to file her report, Carla may have technically busted the letter of that law.

But the guidelines also say, "Print poolers can snap pictures or take video. They are not obliged to share these pictures...but can make them available if they so choose."

Then what guidelines is the White House applying here? Again, we don't know.

What the Administration should have done is to use this incident to precipitate a reasonable conversation about changing their 1950's policies into rules more suited to 2011. Dwight Eisenhower was the last President who let some new media air into the room when he lifted the ban on cameras at press conferences in 1952.

This is not surprising with poor management of the "greenie" park service! - Man lives after 'driving car over Grand Canyon rim'

BBC News - Man lives after 'driving car over Grand Canyon rim'
27 April 2011

A man survived a 200ft (61m) drop in the US state of Arizona after apparently driving his car off the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, authorities have said.

The 21-year-old told park rangers he freed himself from the car after the accidental crash on Monday and climbed to the rim of the canyon to seek help.

...

On Monday evening, rangers were phoned by a visitor to the park, who claimed he had been flagged down by an injured man who had driven over the edge of the canyon.

The accident reportedly took place at about 1945 local time (0245 GMT) on Monday.

The Antiplanner :: The Rights of Mother Earth :: http://ti.org/antiplanner
Here‘s a great way to bring about the collapse of civilization: declare that Mother Earth has equal rights with humans and give anyone standing to represent Mother Earth in court in challenging any activity by anyone else. In practically no time, the gears of industry would grind to a halt, agriculture would shut down, and the resulting problems would no doubt be blamed on greedy capitalists.
So of course the United Nations is apparently considering a proposal to do just that. This proposal was brought before the United Nations by Bolivia, which isabout to pass its own Mother Earth law. This law gives Mother Earth the right to life, diversity (good-bye agriculture), water (good-bye industry), clean air (good-bye cities), equilibrium (good-bye science), and pollution-free living (good-bye just about everything).

Are liberal women responsible for neutering men, as Rep. Allen West told a group of Tea Partiers in Boca Raton, FL last week? In a word, yes.

Here’s the statement West made to a group of conservative women that has people on the left riled up:

We need you to come in and lock shields, and strengthen up the men who are going to the fight for you. To let these other women know on the other side — these planned Parenthood women, the Code Pink women, and all of these women that have been neutering American men and bringing us to the point of this incredible weakness — to let them know that we are not going to have our men become subservient. That’s what we need you to do. Because if you don’t, then the debt will continue to grow…deficits will continue to grow.

I’m sure West’s use of the word “subservient” was like nails on a chalkboard to the left. After all, servitude is the very thing they pride themselves on having saved women from. The notion that men are in any way subservient is laughable to this group — they think men in America have it made.

Alas, but so true - Sorry Bookstores, It was True Love while it Lasted

Sorry Bookstores, It was True Love while it Lasted « Auxiliary Memory

Time waits for no one, as an old song goes. When I was a kid I used to marvel at talking to adults who told me about growing up without television. That just boggled my mind. And my grandmother, who was born in 1881, would tell me about life before the automobile, airplane, radio, Polio vaccine, refrigerator, and indoor plumbing. I just could not fathom such living.

It never occurred to me then that I would live long to hear young people extol technology they couldn’t live without, or I’d have to face big transformations in my life. Personal computers, the internet, ebooks, GPS, cell phones, VHS, CD and DVD players, Facebook, texting, Twitter are inventions that change our society at an unrelenting pace.

Two of my favorite pastimes growing up were shopping for records and books. I loved record and bookstores. Whenever I’d visit a new city I’d seek out its best bookstores and music shops. I really miss flipping through bins of LPs two or three times a week. CDs were an exciting invention, but their tiny size ruined the love of the album cover. Now even CDs are disappearing and I quit shopping at music stores years ago. I got used to it. Time rolls on.

My greatest identity in life is as a bookworm, and sadly bookstores are failing all around me.

Gas Prices Top $1-a-Gallon Higher than Year Ago; Media Don't Blame Obama
Networks have refused to connect administration to steadily rising gas prices.
  • By Julia A. Seymour
  • Monday, April 25, 2011 10:24 AM EDT

The average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline hit $3.86 on April 25, more than $1-a-gallon higher than a year earlier and less than 25 cents away from the record high price of gasoline set in July 2008.

In fact, per gallon prices are more than $2 higher than when Obama took office Jan. 20, 2009. Yet the president has been nearly exempt from criticism on the issue of rising prices, despite a six-month drilling moratorium and more regulatory hurdles for industry.

The Business & Media Institute found that out of the 280 oil price stories the network evening shows have aired since the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, only 1 percent (3 stories) mentioned Obama's drilling ban or other anti-oil actions in connection with gasoline prices.

EPA Ruling Puts 27 Billion Barrels of Oil Off-Limits - By Greg Pollowitz - Planet Gore - National Review Online

Fox News:

Shell Oil Company has announced it must scrap efforts to drill for oil this summer in the Arctic Ocean off the northern coast of Alaska. The decision comes following a ruling by the EPA’s Environmental Appeals Board to withhold critical air permits. The move has angered some in Congress and triggered a flurry of legislation aimed at stripping the EPA of its oil drilling oversight. [Let us hope it happens!]

Shell has spent five years and nearly $4 billion dollars on plans to explore for oil in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas. The leases alone cost $2.2 billion. Shell Vice President Pete Slaiby says obtaining similar air permits for a drilling operation in the Gulf of Mexico would take about 45 days. He’s especially frustrated over the appeal board’s suggestion that the Arctic drill would somehow be hazardous for the people who live in the area. “We think the issues were really not major,” Slaiby said, “and clearly not impactful for the communities we work in.”

If you want nothing to be done, form a commission! Obama a quick study on creating commissions.

Make work for cronies!
Obama a quick study on creating commissions | Hayley Peterson | Politics | Washington Examiner
4/23/11
As a candidate for president, Barack Obama called study commissions created by politicians "Washington-speak for we'll get back to you later."

He mocked his Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain, for suggesting a commission study the Wall Street meltdown, saying, "We don't need a commission to tell us how we got into this mess, we need a president who will lead us out of this mess, and that's the kind of president I intend to be."

But President Obama has already created about two dozen study commissions, blue-ribbon panels and task forces of his own -- roughly one a month since he took office -- to study not only major economic issues but childhood obesity, Hispanics and the middle class.

Most recently, Obama announced he was creating a commission to investigate whether manipulation of the oil markets was causing gas prices to soar. Attorney General Eric Holder pledged Friday that the Oil and Gas Price Fraud Working Group would "help protect American consumers from unnecessary pain at the pump due to illegal activity."

Obama largely ignored the recommendations of another panel, his deficit-reduction commission, in his 2012 budget proposal. But then he appointed a new panel to negotiate a final budget with congressional Republicans.

Happy Earth Day. Now, go back to Mexico! | John Vaught LaBeaume | Beltway Confidential | Washington Examiner

Yesterday was Earth Day, an occasion for liberal bloggers to revert to their pristine, primitive state of nature, Lord of the Flies-style, and self-righteously savage their ideological foes who might not swallow the green economic-interventionist agenda, whole hog.

That this dubious holiday happens to fall upon the anniversary of Vladimir Illych Lenin’s D.O.B. is a fact that hasn’t escaped the conspiracy-minded ever since Earth Day’s inception. This delivers a cudgel into the hands of ecological true believers, a weapon they can use to “whack-a-mole” any peeps of skepticism that might pipe up, to dismiss them as cries from the loony fringe.

There does lurk a sinister driving force behind the movement that proclaimed this Gaia-glowing “festivus,” but it has nothing to do with the Earth Day/Lenin’s bday fluke. Dig deep around the roots of Earth Day and you’ll find some rather “illiberal” elements worming underneath, lamenting America’s "melting pot," worrying that too much chorizo might pollute its vegan stew.

The Government is not interested in protecting the border! Brutal Mexican drug gang crosses into U.S.

Brutal Mexican drug gang crosses into U.S. - Washington Times

Zetas butcher victims to spread message of fear

By Jerry Seper

-

April 19, 2011 Washinton Times

The signature crimes of the most violent drug cartel in Mexico are its beheading and dismemberment of rival gang members, military personnel, law enforcement officers and public officials, and the random kidnappings and killings of civilians who get caught in its butchery and bloodletting.

But this disparate band of criminals known as Los Zetas is no longer just a concern in Mexico. It has expanded its deadly operations across the southwestern border, establishing footholds and alliances in states from New York to California. Just last year, federal agents tied a cocaine operation in Baltimore to the Zetas.

...

Sheriff Gonzalez said U.S. authorities on the border are outgunned and outmanned by drug smugglers armed with automatic weapons, grenades and state-of-the-art communications and tracking systems. He said drug profits have allowed the cartels, particularly the Zetas, to develop “experts” in explosives, wiretapping, countersurveillance, lock-picking and Global Positioning System technology.

“Their violence has emboldened them and they are expanding to cities all across the United States,” he said. “Our own country needs to stop them at the border. We know they’re coming, we just don’t want to admit it. Instead, we continue to say the border is more secure than ever, when we all know that is absolutely not true.”

...

The ‘Executioner’

The reputed leader of the Zetas is Heriberto “The Executioner” Lazcano-Lazcano, an original member of the Grupo Aeromovil de Fuerzas Especiales, or the Air Mobile Special Forces Group, the elite special forces operation within the Mexican army initially assigned to fight the drug cartels.

Lazcano-Lazcano is described by law enforcement officials on both sides of the border as one of the most violent members of the gang. He is sought in the U.S. and Mexico on charges of murder and drug trafficking, and the State Department has offered a $5 million reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction.

He was named in separate indictments in 2008 and 2009 in federal court in Washington, D.C., for conspiring to import cocaine and marijuana into the United States — charged as a result of “Project Reckoning,” a 15-month undercover operation targeting Mexican drug gangs in the U.S. The operation resulted in the seizure of 20,000 kilograms of cocaine, hundreds of weapons and $71 million in cash.

U.S. authorities said Lazcano-Lazcano has a vast arsenal at his disposal, including helicopters, armored vehicles, AK-47 assault rifles, AR-15 semi-automatic rifles, MP-5 submachine guns, 50-mm sniper rifles, shoulder-fired missiles, grenade launchers, bazookas, armor-piercing ammunition, plastic explosives, dynamite and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Gang members wear body armor and ballistic helmets, and launch attacks in military uniforms and military-style vehicles.

The Zetas, seeking to grab a larger portion of the $25 billion cocaine, heroin and marijuana market in the United States, are estimated to have between 1,000 and 3,000 hard-core members and 10,000 loyalists across Mexico, Central America and the United States. Authorities said the gang has organized a sophisticated supply and distribution network operating through established territories.

“The Zetas are quite diversified and they are good bookkeepers,” Mr. Grayson said. “They will go where they can make money and will do what they have to do to make it happen.”

"No man's life, liberty or property are safe while the Legislature is in session." Kent Conrad, MIA

It deserves to be said again. Judge Gideon J. Tucker, 1866: "No man's life, liberty or property are safe while the Legislature is in session."
There is one major reason why you can't trust anything Conrad says, his lips are moving!
Kent Conrad, MIA - Andrew Stiles - National Review Online
APRIL 20, 2011 read more at the above link.

...When Conrad announced earlier this year his decision not to seek another term in 2012, he expressed hope that — freed of the time and political constraints of a reelection campaign — he would be able to play a leading role in the effort to confront what he called “the central threat facing the country, other than a terrorist threat” — the debt. As a member of the Bowles-Simpson commission on deficit reduction as well as the ongoing “Gang of Six” bipartisan negotiations in the Senate, Conrad appeared to be doing just that.

In fact, many Republicans view Conrad as perhaps the most sensible and serious Democrat when it comes to deficit reduction, someone who, in the words of one GOP aide, “has already jumped ship” by abandoning the Democratic consensus for the good of the country (a depressingly rare quality in Washington). The normally soft-spoken Conrad emerged as his party’s most vocal agitator for urgent action to address the debt problem and, unlike many of his Democratic colleagues, rejects the fantasy that tax increases alone will do the trick — entitlements must be on the table.

But the Kent Conrad that fiscal conservatives have come to quietly admire (and liberals vocally despise) has been missing in action of late.

...

perhaps Senator Conrad should revisit his own words from a speech he gave at a “Moment of Truth” press conference to announce the re-launching of the Bowles-Simpson deficit plan: “History is going to judge whether we have the courage, character, and the vision to stand up for America’s future. Those who take a walk, those who turn away, those who don’t have the gumption to stand up, are going to be judged very, very harshly.”

It acts just like the Gov't now! Apple: We 'must have' comprehensive user location data on you

Apple: We 'must have' comprehensive user location data on you - International Business Times
April 23, 2011
Security researchers unveiled this week that Apple's iPhone was actively logging the whereabouts of users, storing location data into an easily assessable file on the device.

But it's not just iPhones that are keeping track of their users.

Apple's iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 4, and iPad models are also keeping track of consumers whereabouts. Mac computers running Snow Leopard and even Windows computers running Safari 5 are being watched.

The question is why?

The company has remained silent after researchers Alasdair Allan and Pete Warden revealed this Wednesday that the iPhone was storing logs of users' geographic coordinates in a hidden file.

In response the company's general counsel Bruce Sewall wrote a letter explaining its practice, and shedding light on the rationale the company uses to monitor users.

"To provide the high quality products and services that its customers demand, Apple must have access to the comprehensive location-based information," Sewall told Congress in the letter.
